To G or not to G?

Hey everyone,

I've got a 997TT coming in next month, but a pal of mine has found a Gallardo Spyder with around 2500 miles on it for sale at a very attractive price. I haven't got the full specs yet but I know it's a black on black (with yellow stitching inside I believe) with a 6-speed. So.... the real question is: To cancel (997TT) or not to cancel?

My main concerns are as follows:
1) The closest Lambo dealer is VERY far away, so reliability wise should I worry? The fact that it's a Spyder (more parts) only means there's more chances of mechanical issues in the future maybe.. and I'm willing to bet the engine has been abused to a certain extent (why else would someone sell it with so few miles? Surely to try it out!)
2) I live in an area with lots of speed bumps, so ground clearance is very important to me: Is it much lower than say the 997TT?
3) I've already driven a Turbo recently, so I know the G will be more "exciting", certainly more vocal, but will a G work as well as an every-other-day car?

I keep changing my mind almost on an hourly basis! So any opinions would be greatly appreciated! I know some of you have much more experience with these two cars than me (I noticed a few lucky ones have both of these machines!)

BTW I plan on keeping the car (whichever) for at least 2-3 years and I don't think I'll do any serious modding during that time.. so we're comparing stock G to stock TT

lol
you guys are giving him so much pressure on deciding the Lambo..
the thing is I notice that you have a 997S and you are asking to buy a car which will be an "every other day" car...

i would say lambo for sure...after audi took over Lambo, Im pretty sure they design the lambo G to be daily driven. Thats why they replace the rather complex V12 engine from the Diablo to a more "economical" V10 engine.

Moreover, if you are worried about ground clearance, dont worry, I heard the 06 Gallardos are fitted with a suspension raise/low device which will allow you to get through most speed bumps (im not sure if its an option).

For a weekend car, the Lambo will definately be the better car to drive, not to mention that you will enjoy being surrounded by millions starring at your amazing machine.
is attracting a crowd an issue to you? personally, i wouldnt mind if every other man on the street snap their camera phones for my car! but thats just me.

V10 vs 6 cylinder TT, the 911 Turbo will give you an amazing driving experience (especially when you hear the twin turbo kicking in!!) i've driven both the 04 G and the new TT. Even though the G was an 04 model, I still think the G gives a better driving experience then the TT.

Reliability issues, of course the Porsche is almost unbeatable, unless you compare it with a Lexus... overall, if you are choosing a weekend car, get the lambo. For an every day car, get the TT.

Thanks for your reponses!

Sorry for not clarifying but my 997S will be sold in favor of one of these, so I will be "Porscheless" if it's to be the G..

Also, I just found out about this new "nose-up" suspension feature on the Gallardo. If I decided on the G, I want to be sure it's on the car otherwise I'd have to trailer it to the highway just to take it out for a spin!

I hear what you're saying about Audi-derived reliability and build quality, so I'm less worried about that.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the Sypder's looks with the top up. I have to say I'm not totally convinced like I am with the topless look.. but I've got some free time tomorrow, so I'm gonna make sure I go down and check the car out for myself before someone else buys it!

The thing is, I live in the Middle East where it's hot as HELL for 2/3rds of the year and humid like you wouldn't believe. So based on how I used my 997S Cab (ie. I've dropped the top less than half of the times I've driven it), I'm not sure if the Spyder is the way to go. If it was a G coupe, no question! Well, time to see if she rocks my boat in the flesh
