Necessary to have exotic car insurance?

Hi,
I have heard somewhere that in certain states it is not required by law to insure exotic cars. I wanted to know from exotic car owners if this is true?

Thanks

a car is a car. If your state requires you to ensure a vehicle for road use, then an "exotic" car would not be exempt.

A law like you suggests would be problematic in and of itself. What defines an exotic car? Is a Lotus exotic? Some definately are. But what about an elise that can be had for the price of an M3? Or a Ferrari 328 that can be bought for $30k? Is a Viper exotic? If it is, then surely the new Z06 is too then?

See what I mean?

This begs the inquiry... why would you own such a car and NOT insure it?

Yeah cause I want to risk some ******bag with $120/yr geico insurance on his CRX to be playing ricer and slam into a $300k car... and trust it's going to be payed for. riiiiiight

btw I would consider a viper GTS an exotic... an srt no, and neither is the new vette. And only because it will cost you near $15grr for a new GTS hood from the dealer. That and they are just that sexy.

When I had my Gallardo, State farm insured my car without issue for under $2000/yr...driving under 7500 miles/year
