Gallardo owners, please help!

I am looking to get into a Gallardo soon. I have spoken to about a dozen of people about the car and I am getting mixed responses. My question is, if I were to find an 04, 6 speed G with a D rated clutch in it, would the car still be as reliable as any other year Gallardo (06/07)? Or is there more to it than just the clutch that the 04/05's suffered from when it comes to reliability only?

TIA for any of your help.

its like rolling the dice. there are many 04-05's out there that are reliable. some 06-07 cars have issues. its not the year, its the luck of the draw. note, first year cars are usually the most problematic.

So how was your test drive? 04's as I mentioned really only have the clutch issue and egear clunky/lag, which I assume can be updated.

Martin, the test drive was orgasmic. I test drove a 997 TT too. We will talk online.

Can you please elaborate as to why you are saying to stay away from 04's? I just want to understand why from a reliability stand point. If the clutch is what's so problematic in the 04's, then what is wrong with getting an 04 with an updated clutch?

Obviously there must be something beyond just the clutch issue if you say that?

They changed a lot since the 04 so it isn't just about relaibility.
e.g. some options added, newer gear ratios, better quality interior plastics, 3rd brake light moved to rear spoiler, etc. etc.

I appreciate the response msindi, but my question still sin't answered..

I am just talking about reliability here. Strictly from a reliability point of view, if the clutch is updated to a new clutch in an 04, would it be as reliable as a newer Gallardo? If not, what is missing other than a clutch upgrade to make it as reliable?

I've driven an 04 with 22k miles on it and it has been the best driving car out of all the 04-05's I've driven. I'd also like to add that the a/c was never replaced, the factory battery was never replaced, and the factory clutch was still in place. Every low mileage car I have looked at has had the a/c and battery replaced. It seems as though the Gallardo likes to be driven. Just my opinion. It is of course luck of the draw and how well it's been cared for, but don't be nervous on an older 04. The clutch is the big dollar item so just be sure to check remaining life. Good luck....

Hey guys...I guess I am not making my question clear. Let me try again.

I am looking to get a Gallardo. I dont care about the 06 being faster, having less brake lights, having the front end lift, better tranny, etc.

THE ONLY THING I AM CONCERNED ABOUT IS RELIABILITY! So, if I change the clutch to a D rated clutch in the 04 G WITH A 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION, will the reliability of an 04 be the same as the reliability of an 06? If not, why not? Meaning, is there anything else on the 06 other than a clutch that is better than the 04 in TERMS OF STRICTLY RELIABILITY?

I wont be able to do any better than that..

well the factory has spent 3 years building the car and put out 3,000 plus of them.........04 or 06? Practice does make perfect.

My 06 is as reliable as my 07 BMW. Plus it's faster. O6's have hundred's of changes.

Buy the 2006 version –

Overall, the 2006 e-gear is a great car. I’ve never had any issues with it and would highly recommended it to anyone.

My 06 Gallardo can run circles around my 430 and GT2 in both handling and high-speed stability, not to mention, it’s more comfortable and exciting to drive. It’s a shame that they depreciate so fast and a Ferrari holds its value so well… Very disappointing when you consider the Porsche and the Lamborghini are mechanically – just as advanced, and in many cases, superior.
