About the Turbo's and accelerating.

So my dad has a Macan Turbo and let's me drive it around sometimes. I noticed that when you accelerate from a standstill, or without letting the car rev up a few times it doesn't accelerate nearly as fast as if you give it a couple revs beforehand.

I'm wondering how to maximize acceleration when driving. No not to do anything stupid, but am just curious. Also I wouldn't mind an explanation on how this all works, I know a bit about cars, but really want to expand my knowledge about them.

Thanks a lot!
