Gauge Cluster Malfunction

This just started happening on a drive I went on yesterday :
When the car is in accessory mode everything is fine.
When I start the car the all sections of the cluster start turning on and off in a repeat cycle every 3 seconds. Only about 30% of the cluster turns on and then it all goes black and repeat. But if I turn the car off and it's in accessory everything is fine again.
What could the issue be?

dont know if this is an issue thats still on going.. spoke with our one of our techs, here are his thoughts..

Sounds like either a body grounding issue or an internal short in the battery, obviously we would need it in our shop to do a proper diagnostics but checking the connections at the battery would be the first thing I would check.

I've been wanting to get into one of these also but from reading they plagued with issues . Electronic gremlins , rear spoilers not working trans issues and even heard that some of them have an engine block cracking issue?

Of course I would suggest making sure you get your standard PPI and consider purchasing an extended factory warranty on your car of interest, its a small investment that could potentially pay for itslef, tens of times over. Just make sure you do your normal due diligence as far as receiving any and all service RO's and records.

If you can provide the VIN when you find your car, we can run it through our system and identify all work thats been completed at a McLaren dealer as well as identify all warranty work completed too.
