If you can have fun in a big-block Chevelle or a Buick GNX, you can get the same enjoyment out of the E55 plus great Mercedes luxury and refinement.
Don't forget you can hold 4 adults AND have the A/C on.. while pulling away... LOL

My best friend has an 07 RS4 https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/automobiles-sale/139863-fs-2007-audi-rs4-new-condition-19k-miles.html and we have car swapped in the past. I love the RS4 for the RS4 and I love my E55 for the E55…. But they are both very different cars!! The RS4 would be more comparable to the M3….

I loved driving the RS4, it handles great, front end looks amazing, quite, but has a sport mode that make the exhaust a little louder…. The interior is my stunning!!! You can’t go wrong with carbon fiber. But… it dose have less power and is a little smaller inside and that is something I missed.
Hands down one of my favorite cars. I would take an RS4 over and M3 any day. If you are a mod guy, you might run into a shortage of thing to upgrade… this car is pretty much top notch.

Go drive them both !!
Contact my friend Brad with the car link above, good guy, very knowledgeable, will give you more incite on the difference between the two. He was having the same dilemma about if he wanted and E55 for his next car after his RS4…. He will break it down for you.
Hey dude, thanks for the plug. I've actually dropped the price of the car significantly and it's now on Autotrader.com at $49,979.

As for the RS4/E55 debate. Both outstanding cars, but both very, very different. The RS4 is a much tighter, more responsive car. Sportier. The E55 is a complete beast, with violent acceleration. Of course I'm really only used to driving yours, with ~600HP, so my opinion is subjective.

But regardless, it's one of those cars that even though it's for sale, I have zero problems continuing to drive the RS4 because it's so versatile, good looking, and comfortable. Hell, I might even end up putting a coilover kit and exhaust system on it and keeping the thing. It's hard to find a car to replace it that will be on an equal level without spending thousands upon thousands in modifications.

Best of luck!
Brad

i have driven in a e55 and it wasnt bad...ive driven a e63 however and that thing is a monster...but these are luxury cars, so dont expect it to drive like a 911...but id hands down go with RS4 because its comfortable, sexy, fast, 6speed...and handles very well...and ontop of that, ibis white is rare as hell and so sexy...

Another factor to consider is mod potential. If you are inclined to mess with your toys, the E55 can easily and reliably get to 600+ hp.

E55

I would like to chime in because I recently purchased a 05 E55.
I traded in a stage 4 Evo with coilover suspension. The handling on the Evo was ridiculous. I loved tinkering with the Evo and tearing up highway on ramps and country roads, but it lacked any form of luxury.
I wanted a car with luxury and comfort, but still had 12 sec 1/4mile speed.
I did consider the RS4, M3, and even a C6 vette.
I knew I would be sacrificing handling and all out speed bacause I dont think any STOCK vehicle can match the handling or the speed of a modified Evo.
I test drove the E55 first and I was hooked. I didnt even need to test drive the other because I know they would not come close to the E in terms of torque. The car rides like a dream, firm yet compliant over choppy chicago roads. The car is big and roomy, and the drivers seat is comfortable and still supportive.
As others have said, this is definately a beast of a musclecar in a Benz wrapper. 4000lbs of metal should not move this fast. The handling is actually beter than expected, it has plenty of grip and body roll is kept in check. The brakes are definately strong enough to scare passengers.
The RS4, M3, and C6 are probably more agile and have more grip, but how often can these car be pushed to their handling limits on the streets without risking the safety of yourself and those around you. Not that often.
I think the E55 is the best all around vehicle regardless of price because it has Power, Comfort, Prestige, Room for a family, the wife can drive it and not realize there is a beast under the right foot.
But when it comes time to trade this it, it will be for a 997 turbo.
I need to rob a bank first.

My $.02

On that note, also keep in mind the cost of the mods for the E55. An electronic lowering module is over $2000, cat-back is over $3000, air intake system is $2000+. It's not cheap, but it responds like ape**** to everything you throw at it.

In fact, I think that's a good word to describe a modified E55's acceleration: ape****. It's one of the fastest cars I've ever driven.
