CL63 Lowered by GhostLinks---Whats correct ride hight??!

Hi all

Had my CL for about month now and first mod to do was to lower it by links...I have fitted them but I feel the car is still not sitting 'right'

Too low makes the car look funny and standard height no good either, cant seem to find the right set up.

On my E55 I had a one finger gap with 19's, but on this Im keeping the standard wheels..

Have included pics..

Standard set up - OEM links..

After Ghost links fitted:

any help is much appreciated!

I think it looks good. As long as it's not rubbing or the suspension is all out of whack now, I would leave it.

I think it looks great as well!!! I have a few questions for you since I am looking to lower my cl600 in the future. I was wondering 1st off if you have any rubbing issues and had to do any fender work. Also, is your alignment out of spec or were you able to get it back to standard alignment? These are my biggest concerns so far... The MB community isn't that big especially CL guys so information is scarce and any info I can get is great appreciated

Quite unfortunate you are keeping it stock! We have a really good setup for a black CL, so let us know if you change your mind!

Hello! Think I might help you out! You are talking about the latest CL, right? Even though we mostly have info and experience with the older generation, getting anything done on the CL600 requires some expertise.

Will you be going with the stock setup or adding aftermarket wheels? If the second answer is correct, any wheel manufacturer that takes pride in their work and skill will get you a 20" wheel inside the wheel arches, without rubbing, without scraping, or any other issues regarding the car.

Then with careful fitment and right application, there should really be no issues with the suspension or the car itself!

Yes I have the w216 2008 model. Iv'e seen CL's with aftermarket 20's and I think they look too small so I'm planning on getting 22x9F and 22x10.5R which is what I currently have on my LS. I would just try to fit the wheels on the car to see if it rubs or pokes or not but they are a different bolt pattern. As for the lowering part, my dealer told me that they would be able to lower it with their system but I have not confirmed that. From researching seems like the links are the most popular ways to lower the car and then the more expensive lowering module.

It would be best to fit the wheels then see if the lowering system will handle it properly. But maybe going with 21" for the setup, would prove to be a better selection. But it also depends on the wheel style. For example a five-spoke wheel on a CL would look awesome in 21" without a doubt! But with compacted mesh designs, maybe 22" would be a better choice, like you already said!

All the newer cars swallow wheels like there is nothing at all! Specially if you are going with flush fitment, lowering the car and enjoy that look. But to every customer a perfect setup can be reached with proper fitments, alignment and careful engineering. We did an Audi A7 a few days ago, if we went with anything smaller than 22" the effect wouldn't be right! But for example the new CLS looks perfect on 21" wheels!

What color is your CL600 anyway, so I can get you some better advice regarding the sizing, since colors have a great impact on the way wheels in different sizes are perceived on different cars.

Hey!

you're right about the CL info being scarce! I couldnt find nothing on either this forum on MBworld!

Anyway so with the drop Ive had no issues, steering is still lights and no rubbing issues at all. Not had to do any work on the fenders (never a fan of this!) and drives like the OEM set up. Obviously feels slightly harded on pot holes but a price you we have to pay to make it look so good!!

Hope this helps!

When lowering, to keep the car from looking like a rolling slab or Burney (unless you want that sort of DTM car look) you need to add rake.
That is the front should be slight lower than the rear to accommodate for the fact that the front has more suspension travel.

The common relationship is 1/2" to 1.
So if you drop 1" in the front you want a 1/2"-3/4' drop in the rear bearing in mind a car's particular design, body lines, or rear heft will add to the drop either accentuating or nullifying it.
