I was curious to know what HP the stock AMG brakes are capable of handling. I am considering a car with close to 600HP and want to make sure I have Brakes that are completely capable of handling that kind of power. My thinking is that they are fine given they are the same brakes used on the SL65AMG.

I am also considering upgrading the the control arm Bushings on the car and would appreciate any information on possible bushing replacements.

My suggestion; before buying a car with 600hp you should understand that brakes aren't rated by how much horsepower the can control. Buy a car with 300hp, take some driving lessons, learn what you're doing and then buy a car with 600hp.

 

That's a very odd way to ask the question. There's no magical HP number that brakes are capable of handling or not. The answer on how much braking you need is also entirely dependent on the type of driving you're doing. If it's going to see the track it needs far different brakes than a weekend cruiser. Do you tend to drive in a pretty "spirited" manner on public roads? Do you ever smell your brakes burning on the types of drives this car will be used for? Are your brakes ever smoking when you stop after driving? So how is this car going to be used?

All that being said/asked, there's a couple of things I always do on my cars: Upgrade the brake fluid (Motul or ATE) and upgrade the pads.
