SL's top speed?

i have been looking around the web quite a bit and i was just wondering about the top speed of an SL...
i saw the Vmax event footage, and "stock" car wise, the SL65 gets up to 300km/h (with the limiter removed) quicker than any other cars including Enzo, carrera gt, SLR McLaren etc, but I could never find info about the SL65's actual top speed.., andybody got info on that?^^

the video below is a SLR race with a SL65. The SL65 walk away from the SLR when the video show the SLR at 330km/h. I'm not sure how fast is the 65 but must be a crazy number.

A test driver/journalist...realized the top speed of 320 Km/h...which is about 200 mph...with an SL 55 AMG.
Supposing that, an SL 65 would be around 340 or maybe something more...
An SLR tested by Auto Motor und Sport did 334 in Nardò.
I think an SL 500 abviously delimited should do around 270 - 280 Km/h.
That should be pretty good considering the weight of the car!

Weight doesn't influence the car's top speed much. At very high speeds the limiting factor is the induced drag.

That's true as well!
Or better it should be the primary factor...but the weight is another big problem

No, it's not. Aerodynamics are a way more important factor at high speeds. The higher the speed, the less does the weight matter. In fact, the weight does only significantly matter at 0-100 km/h, but once the mass of a car got moving, there's really no need to think about the weight.

You should remember the basics of physics here...

The SL is most likely very dicey at those speeds. With no real downforce holding it down. Talk about scary-fast.

330 km/h = 205.06 mph. Yea, scary fast.

The SL55 starts out with 4235 pounds, the 600/65s a few hundred more. At 160mph the ride in my SL55 was completely without drama. I don't know about higher speeds though. This was before the K2. My limiter is now set at 185, the vmax of the tires.

thats why the SL should be equipped with a huge wing

Well, yea... that's simply because the AMG SLs are amazingly powerful cars. Straight forward top speed is their absolute top discipline.

I never studied physics...I'm supposing!
Anyway I think is different seeing a SL going fast than a Ultima GTR...the ability and the speed reached of the vehicle is compromised by its weight too.
Sounds like you are from Germany right? cause of the avatar

+1
i remember watching a car test where the SL55 torn the F430, Gallardo, 911 GT3, GT2 and NSX apart in straightline accleration..

however, at those speed, the SL was described as "scary" by the driver at those top speed...maybe mercedes should consider giving it a huge wing or readjust its aerodynamics..

That's what I was thinking too!
Maybe less weight and better aerodynamics will raise down the bouncing the car has at high speed...and maybe more rigid sunpensions...but the car won't be a SL anymore hialrious
The SL is tremendously faaast
