You know...the 55 has ways more torque, so would be faster passing cars on the highway and things like that...while the 63 has less torque but more power. But I think the 63 has enough torque for everyone...

are you going to be replacing the 545i? Either car would be a good replacement for it.

I Think either way they are both nice rides! Trying to talk my friend into a used E55 since she wants something with luxury thats got the power of her C5 vette! I think the E55 fits the bill!

Yes, I am thinking of replacing the 545i with something a little more exciting. Even though I really like the 545i(great handling, ride, and decent power). I do find myself wishing for a little more.

I test drove the M5 twice and both times I asked the sales person: "are you sure you have the setting at 500hp?". I just could not feel the power of the M5, and without the power, it is not much different than the 545i. I have a lingering suspicion that I may have been driving the M5 at 400hp even with all that assurance from the sales person.

On the other hand, I really liked the way the E63 felt: Good power, smooth, nice steering feel, etc. The only thing that bothers me is the slightly dated look of the E series.

I currently have an E55, and have driven the CLS 63. So far, the E63 has not shown to be faster than a stock E55. In fact, a few guys on the MB boards have taken both to the drag strip, and the E55's have been consistently faster. I have yet to see an E63 break into the 12's. It is a smoother all around package, and a great car. Not saying the 55 is better than the 63, just saying that if the performance numbers will bother you, beware of the 63's. IMO, can't go wrong either way.

very true. first drive in the M5 kinda shocked me how slow it was. shouldn't say it's slow but definitely i expected way more. i ended up getting one anyways but couldn't give up the CLS55 because of its torque. M5 got better after u know how to set it right (redundant for sure). it's really fast when u drive hard and @ higher RPM because of the natural of the motor.

not trying to sell u the M5 but just use it as a comparison. E63 motor feels very similar to M5 but it has more torque that u can feel right away. i really like the look of the E63 certainly it makes the E55 looks kinda dated. i think if u're going to use it as daily car u'll be very happy with the 63. if u're a power junky & want different kind of power then go with 55. with minor Kleemann mod the car is a monster. here's a easy example:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=61522

we did the K1 upgrade on Garrett E55. look what number the car is putting out.

A couple of different dyno tests have shown that the 63 is actually putting down less horsepower than the 55.

My dealer gave me the keys to a brand new E63 off the truck and i took it for a test drive while i was making a VERY DIFFICULT decision of 55 or 63...

I think in terms of looks, i like the new minor changes.. the 55 look was kind of getting tired.

No interior changes at all except the seats and the steering wheels, which again i think the MP wheels are better.

After driving them both, i went for a CPO 55, due to the value of it.

My decision came down on $$. I think it was a better deal for a similar car. I have a feeling that E63 will take a huge hit like the 55 2006 models did.

So, have fun for a lot less and put the rest of cash on mods.

Right?

Hope i made my decision right . i am sooo tired of switching cars every 6 month ..

Sounds like a good decision which you will be happy with. Here is a hypothetical question for you: If both cars were preowned, same model year, same condition, and same price, would you have gone for the E63? Or do you think you would have still gone with the E55 for reasons of modability, more torque, etc.?

I think in that situation, I would probably go with the 63. Tough choice though.

Here is some relevant information that I found on some other website:

E55 vs E63 - MBUSA Comments

Emailed AMG product manager about my concerns over E63 performance as I have an E63 wagon ordered to replace 03 E55 coming off lease.

Looks like MBUSA will post some comparisons on the AMG private lounge site.

Here are excerpts from MBUSA response

"Like you, we were also interested in head-to-head comparisons of the cars,
both under acceleration, as well as on the track where other performance
characteristics (braking, handling, lateral acceleration) could be
compared.

Basically, the E63 AMG is a much smoother and more linear performer,. For
acceleration, this means that the 0-60 mph times are more consistent and
easily achieved, whereas with the E55 AMG Kompressor, the torque being
available at a much lower engine speed, frequently causing wheelspin (and
ESP / ASR actuation) under hard acceleration. Our tests yielded more
consistent results for the E63 AMG, although in some cases the E55 AMG
delivered a lower elapsed time at the dragstrip.

On the road course racing track we used, the advantage of the E63 AMG was
much greater. On the same day under identical conditions, out pro driver
lapped the 1.48 mile track at 3-4 seconds quicker in the E63 AMG
consistently. This can be attributed to the superior compound brakes,
revised suspension, 7 speed AMG Speedshift automatic with shift paddles as
well as the lower weight of the engine (-47 lb) over the front axle.
Further, our drivers found the E63 AMG much smoother, more progressive and
easier to drive fast.

We plan to show information and other cool stuff from our testing on
Mercedes-amg.com/privatelounge very soon so that you can see the E63 AMG
results for yourself."
