Not to cause an uproar, but have you thought about Nikon since you dont have lenses? The D70s gets better reviews than the Rebel XT...I have a Nikon system and it is wonderful...les expensive than the 20D with all the quality...Just mu .02 cents....

fwiw i bot the 20D due to the fast shutter speed settings... its the fastest dSLR out under $5k. A Must for cars/sports/F1. The other reason was that I didn't want the lag in write time (a problem with some nikons and lower canons and their flash memory speed)
20D 5fps for 23 consec frames (really 30-35frames before it noticeably slows)
