Wood fire pit on Azek deck.....floor protection?

Ok guys,

Summer is almost here. We just had our deck built by our general contractor, who I highly recommend using Azek decking. Got a fire pit lounge set coming in. I know you can use certain pads to protect the floor from radiant heat, so wanted to check what people were using or recommend. I am considering this but want to confirm if you guys think it is worth it....

Thanks.

Berk I was also in the same position as you a few years ago but decided against placing a fire pit table on our deck, there I built an additional patio out if gravel for the pit.

If you really set on placing the pit on your deck then perhaps you could do something like this:

1. Lay down some 12"x12" pavers with perhaps a border
2. Fill it with sand which is a fire retardant and set the pit on that.

Goodluck with whatever you decide and be safe.

I don't know if I would build a pit into a wood deck. It's probably better to do gas or buy a portable one.

We did a stone patio at the walk out level with a masonry pit. That doesn't work for everyone though.
