Isn't the LS1 the C5 vette that came out in '98 just after the C4 series, when they did the whole body new gen re-design. They touted the new car and engine as the future generation Corvette at the time, I remmember looking at a magazine in my library in college and thinking how awesome that car was...they didn't have a Z06 until a couple of years later, in fact I was going to get a brand new Vette after graduation but went with the Saleen Mustang instead, very sweet white on white wheels with black leather and big whompin' motor, just couldn't pass it up! I still don't recall FRC, I was undert the impression that all C5 including C5-Zo6 had LS-1 motors? Those late 90's were my first real foray into American muscle cars, two Saleen mustangs later I paid cash for my first BMW M3, a Dakkar yellow coupe and never looked back...but I always have a soft spot for Mustangs and Vettes, and the classic Copo Camaro, '69 w/ racing stripes, and the late 60's Charger, Challenger, and my all time favorite Muscle car the illusive Hemi Cuda!
That's a great looking torched Red FRC...awesome body style! Does it have the same engine to the Z06 or same car/power and suspension/brakes as the z06 it turned into in '01? I really like fixed roof coupes, not just corvette, but in general, I am not a fan of convertibles and I hate sunroofs, I think they ruin a car. Simple, nice fixed roof, clean lines, a nice rake/stance, nice engine and drivetrain gear, suspension, and brakes...that's all you need!
The engine is not the same as a z06... All corvettes from 1997-2004 came with a version of the ls1, the z's came with the ls6 which was rated at 385 in its inaugural year and 405hp in successive years, while the ls1 was rated at 350 (correct me if I'm wrong on the ls1 numbers).
Changes in cylinder head and cam design as well as some small internal changes I believe gave the increase in hp to the z initially... In the beginning, the ls6 also used a different intake manifold from the ls1, although all corvettes used this intake after 2002 I believe. In addition, the later z's used a different pcv system from the standard ls1 cars.
There are a ton of small differences that make the z's what they are, including standard z51 suspensions, non run flat tires, transmission differences, and the like.
Roland's Frc is the predecessor to the z... Gm realized that what was initially meant to be a less expensive vette, could be beefed up, and due to the stiffness of its convertible based body, it would make a great track and performance oriented version of the corvette that they could charge more for
