"Auto Mufflers" exhaust shop review
Hi all,
Well I have yet walked my way into another minor modification on the CL600 in our car family. I recently did a small review of a tint shop, and now on to an exhaust shop that I have discovered.
The shop is called Auto Mufflers and are located at:
5413 Lafayette Place
Hyattsville, MD 20781
So, for the past few weeks I have been in the urge to do something with the super quiet exhaust of the V12. I first removed the resonators, however, soon realized (as soon as the car was placed back on ground) that it didn't change a SINGLE THING! I was amused!
So, further on, I started the search for an exhaust shop that would take care of my needs for a very reasonable price. I had talked to some of the most reputable shops in the MD/DC/VA area, and they all gave me quotes of about $300 to cut off my factory mufflers and weld in some Magnaflow Glasspack's that I had acquired... In my mind (yes a college students mind) $300 is a semester of books
and not something I can afford just outright at this moment, however, as we all know once taht bug bites to get something done.... as anyone else I WILL FIND A WAY TO DO IT!!
So after all my searching and talking to a few contacts I had with my friends, the best I was able to get was $150....
All in all, I kept searching
I came across these guys (Auto Mufflers) and decided to give them a call. Kenny picked up the phone and gave me a ballpark figure over the phone... and let me tell you, when he gave me a quote, my jaw dropped to the floor (in a good way!) I had to ask like 5 times just to make sure my mind wasn't playing games with me, and that the price he was quoting me for was BOTH, not just one.... well IT WAS FOR BOTH!
I as at their shop an hour later, and out of there 2 hours after that with my new "axle back" exhaust set up.
What the guys did was cut off my factory mufflers (in the middle of the axle bend), modified my glasspacks as they were too big (they cut off some of the glasspack tips/piping parts), then they cut off the factory Mercedes muffler tip mount off my factory mufflers, welded them onto the glasspacks, then furthermore they fabricated the axle bend out of MANDREL BENT tubing.
They put everything together, welded it all, made sure my tips are aligned (aligned now better than factory).. and lastly they even painted the exhaust for me with temperature resistant/exhaust paint.
The guys allowed me to watch all of this, and to make sure everything was up to my specs.
........ THE PRICE THAT I PAID FOR ALL THIS!!!....
.... well let's say cheaper then cheap even for a broke college student
All in all, I am a one happy camper!!!
Here are some pics of the guys doing the work:

The guys also supply all kinds of mufflers and exhausts whether magnaflow or flowmaster, etc etc etc.... I brought my own glasspacks which I bought at pepboys and they were happy to put them on.
They do a lot of vehicles for Camaro forums and also, as I was in there (they did the mustang) and afterwards they did a full custom fabrication for an expedition.
Disclamer:
- I have absolutely no affiliation with this shop, I found the guys on craigslist today, and decided to give them a try!
- As you can tell by the pictures nice quality! however, by no means do I hold any responsibility on their quality of work... this review is MY opinion.
- I have built a pretty good relationship with Kenny there, so if you do call, tell him Paul sent you! He should remember me - the person that bugged him for 2 hours
Best Wishes!

I hope to get some nice high definition pics soon, as well as a quick video of it! (sigh, even with no resonators and these tinyyy glasspacks the car is still SUPER quiet.... I am amazed... it's essentially straightpiped! and sounds quieter than a stock 3 series BMW!!!
However, none the less, 2 thumbs up for Auto Mufflers!

Nice! That looks great! I absolutely love those trucks! What else have you done to yours?
Yeah.... not to make you feel bad... I suppose I can now expose what I paid for EVERYTHING cut off/ installed / painted, etc...
... $75.00! :O

Although $75 sounds crazy... did you provide the mufflers? how much were they? Did they do the tips or reuse the old ones?
Nothing else done to my truck... yet. I have a few plans but nothing crazy.
They did a good job on my Cobra. Went back a week later for a rattle and they repiped a resonator for me, no problem. I will say this, if you want to save your stock muffler completely in tact you better speak up before they start cutting. They will cut the pipe short of the clamp and cut the hangers too. Kenny was great to work with and will do whatever you ask.
