2012 SCCA MD ProSolo This Weekend
2012 SCCA MD ProSolo This Weekend
SCCA's ProSolo Tour is back in Maryland this year! The last ProSolo here was back in 2010. This event will be held from this Friday, 13th through Sunday, 15th at FedEx Field Stadium. Friday is a practice day with the Evolution Performance Driving School session during the afternoon, practice with the christmas tree/drag launches, then open course walk at the end of the day. Saturday and Sunday are competition days with Sunday ending with the Challenge Rounds. Challenge Rounds take the winning competitors from each class and runs them against each other with their PAX(Handicap) time equaling competition from the start. Resulting with the fastest person out of the event winning regardless of car/class. Competitors are coming from every single state on the east coast and some states inland with about 250 entries. Easily one of the biggest competitive events in the area.
What is a Pro Solo event? In a nut shell, it combines a little bit of drag racing with autocross. 2 nearly identical courses are set up side by side, one mirrored. Competitors line up at the start line next to each other with christmas tree style lights between. Lights go green and the competitors are off at a race to the finish on their side of the course. As soon as they cross the finish line, they pull right back up to the start lines, switch lanes/courses, and run again. Between Saturday and Sunday competition days, competitors will get a minimum of 8 timed runs. Your fastest run from each side out of both days counts and determines your position in results.
Winners from each class later compete in the Challenge Round to battle it out and determine the fastest and most consistent person out of the whole weekend for the event. With money and prizes to win from sponsors such as Hawk Performance, Honda Performance Development, Toyo Tires, Hoosier Racing Tires, Volkswagen of America, Subaru of America, Kumho Tires, Mazda, Mini, Toyota, and many more.

As you can see, ALL types of cars and just about every single one of them have some sort of modification. Some of the best drivers in the country will be out to this event with numerous National Champions.
I know very few on this forum would really be interested. And this event has been full for nearly a month and this REALLY isn't the type of event to start autocrossing in. BUT, IMO it's VERY worth checking out. So many cool cars to see and some real tough and intense competition. Check it out by yourself or make a little 6speed meet out of it! It's FREE to watch! The event goes on pretty much all day long Saturday and Sunday so you won't miss any action.
I'll be there competing in my Moogen. Hoping to walk away with at least a trophy position, possibly even get 1st and make it into the Challenge Round
. Judging by the entries for my class, odds are slightly in my favor. But you never know. It'll be fun.
Hope to see some 6speed peeps out there!

Yup, signed up in the '44!!! Gonna be running against a fleet of Miatas, and one MR-2... lol... Even if you aren't registered, I definitely recommend coming out and watching!! If the driving talent isn't enough, some of the engineering that goes into the cars definitely is!!!
