Bob - I admit to being confused by the owner's statements to you that Cars & Coffee is closed/not open.. No 'closed' signs, only welcome signs today along with outside tables and chairs in the parking lot, the usual 'drive-up' coffee tent....plus an increasing array of cars. I can't seem to add a photo to this post...but think you'd find it interesting.

Last night, I spoke to Mike, the owner of Katie's. He said he will not be ready for Katie's Cars & Coffee to resume until Virginia
implements phase 3 of reopening after the quarantine. Yes, they are selling food, but they are still subject to limitations as far as
number of people on-site, as well as spacing, and of course, masks. We shouldn't be opening up the floodgates to cars & coffee,
just yet. It's tough to abstain, but it will be better for everyone, in the long run.
I guess it depends on how one (he) defines 'cars & coffee'....he has made provisions to offer food, coffee, and tables and chairs on the patio and parking lot, and there is an increasing number of specialty cars showing up and no one is chasing them (or their money) away. I'm unclear what will be different when he 'opens' after phase 3. On a related topic, there were about 100 cars yesterday at Dulles Landing....looked just like it would have a year ago. Nice open lot so you don't have to squeeze between cars, and social distancing is easy.
I don't know what's confusing. Having 500 cars show up for cars & coffee would be a problem. We need to wait until it's safe to gather in numbers.
At this point, showing up at Katie's at our normal cars & coffee time is a bad example for the people who don't know better.
I'm sure Dulles Landing is better set up for such a gathering.
Confusing with respect to actions not matching words...if the owner really feels it is a bad idea to have cars & coffee (and I'm not disagreeing with that), then it is counter-productive to be open and offering food, coffee, tables and chairs several hours before the other shops and patrons use the lot from 9am on. As you rightfully point out, some don't know better to stay away but it does have the appearance (for the reasons I've mentioned) that assembling and patronizing the place is OK and welcomed.
Katie's Cars & Coffee is still officially closed. I will let you know when the owner says they are ready to resume.
Until then, here are some memorable vehicles from Katie's past Saturdays:
We are still waiting for Katie's Cars & Coffee to re-open; best guess is currently sometime in July. I will let you know when they are ready. The restaurant is now open, but limited in capacity; they are NOT ready for a full-on Katie's crowd, so please do not jump the gun on this.
Rob Smith provided me with pictures for this week's Best of Katie's. Thanks, Rob!
Yes, it's been a very long time without an 'official' Katie's Cars & Coffee - and it will still be a while before they are ready to host the full-blown event again. Please be patient.
We encourage you to have breakfast or dinner at the Old Brogue; they need your business. I will announce here when they are ready for the throngs that accompany C & C.
In the meantime, here are some notable memories from past Katie's:
I still have not gotten word that Katie's is ready to open up for Cars & Coffee, so here's another look back at previous events. I will let you know when Mike K says it's appropriate to start gathering for Saturday cars & coffee again. Stay safe!
Sure do miss waking up early on a Saturday and taking one of my random drives around town and ending up at Katies...
I agree, but it's important for public health that we restrain ourselves for the time being. I had a friend pass away from complications of COVID-19 last week.
I do not want to be responsible for spreading.
