Bloomfield Hills native here graduated from lahser high school, moved from bh to Sacramento, CA. Miss you fellas over there in the glove.
don't insurance companies not like that? I tried to do that with my STi when I lost a ringland and was down for a couple months and the insurance company said they were scared of fire and what not and didn't want to drop the insurance for even a short time....
AAA had a problem with people doing this, and they made a 'one change every six months' rule which has never been enforced to my knowledge.
If your car is down, most companies will do a storage policy (for fire/theft/vandalism) or some may call it comprehensive only (so damage while parked is covered, but no PIP for the state of Michigan medical, so you can't drive it). There is still a comprehensive deductible. It should never be removed from the policy entirely to protect it from the things that can happen to it will parked, but if it's not being driven, it can be tons cheaper (two digits each six months typically)
In some cases, storage is *super* cheap and the multi-car discount is larger than the storage cost. I had a customer call with a Ford Explorer and a project 240SX and the policy was more expensive with just the Ford than it was with both the Ford on the road and the 240SX in storage.
Just about every company will prevent you from having only storage vehicles on the policy. You'll need (depending on the company) either one drivable vehicle or one per licensed driver.
Michigan is great.
