Buy a new or used Mini?
bought an 06 R53 and love the hell out of it...
there are plenty of deals out there, buy one off lease and save. i found someone over their mileage and paid $19K for a very well optioned MCS (everything but nav and LSD with 34K on the clock). I got the color combo I wanted (grey, black roof, no stripes), and started modding with the money I was under budget.
If you get sick of it, give it to the wife

Again .... looking for a Cooper S 01,02 ....ish. What would be a good price. this will be daily driver, no racing, and i do not love a lot of extras, such as sunroofs etc. Any ideas on price, mileage?
The BMW MINI came to the USA in 2002 with the Cooper, the Cooper S followed but weren't really available until 2003, so those would be the earliest. We had both, still have our 2003 Cooper S, over the years we have done some mods. It's not for sale and I'm not current on the market, suggest you check some of the other forums that are all MINI.
If anyone here is from the northeast area (MA). I'll sell them mine. I was going to trade it on my new C2S this weekend but can sell it for the same price. 05 Cooper S - 6Spd, 33K miles. PM me for details if interested.
MINI vehicles have long been known for maintaining their overall value and has won several awards for resale and residual value from both Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com and ALG. If buying used, certainly stay away from the earlier MINIs (‘02 – ‘03) if you can as there are quite a few build issues with these older cars especially with the CVT automatics.Do a lot of reading on northamericanmotoring.com (NAM) and motoringfile.com before you decide on R53 (Tritec/supercharged) vs R56 (Prince turbocharged engine). I am a big fan of the supercharger engine and it's whine, raw and visceral road feel and perfect retro interior. The R56's exterior/interior redesign is not my cup of tea. But definitely better gas mileage and I guess more safety features keeping up with changing laws. Somehow I am unable to post the links that I could get from motoringfile (which is a great resource for MINI maniacs) as is NAM. So go to motoringfile do a search on the following topics: 1. An owners-view-issues-with-the-r56-over-the-years. 2. Ask-mf-which-mini-should-i-buy. 3. mini-r50r53-buyers-guide. 4. Dissecting-the-r56s-character-flaws. 5. Details-behind-the-cold-start-fix. Go test drive both, check autotrader, NAM marketplace and then decide what is best for you. Both are grat cars and it is just personal preference; Me being a big fan of the first gen MINI coopers.Good luck and keep us posted. Hope this helps
