Which Tire Size Will Work?

I have an 08 Mini S with H&R springs - 1 1/4 inch drop all the way around..

I have 215x35x18 tires on the car..looking to go to a 225x40x18...will this work?

beaner is infamous around these parts
Jay Slay: all i can say is "it depends". some factors are: 1. what specific tires are you looking at? there are wide variances from brand to brand even w/ the "same" sized tire. 2. what wheels do you have? the larger tires will "require" a 7.5" wide wheel. actual section width is a function of wheel width for a given tire. wheel offset is the other concern. spacers may be required (although that is not a big deal). 3. what are you alignment specs? more camber will help when fitting larger tires as it tucks the top of the tire into the opening. 4. are the front springs a "barrell" design? this is the limiting factor on my car.

i run 225/40/17 Hoosier R6's and 235/620/117 Hankook F200's on my track rims (custom 17 X 8 Kodiaks w/ et 40). they have done a bit of "self-clearancing", but they work.

i run 215/35/118 BFG kdw2's on 18 X 8 wheels on the street. the kdw2's are wider than some companies 225's.

check the size of my tires against the ones that you are considering. i, too, am dropped about 1 1/4" on coilovers. i have an R53. from looking at stock cars, i would guess that there is a little more room w/ the R56. i know that there is more width available in the back w/ the aluminum trailing arms. i'm going to graft them to my car.
