I have your valvetronic exhaust system in my first generation Audi R8 4.2 and I get compliments on it all the time. I've never heard a stock R8 V8, but people have told me your exhaust sounds better than the stock exhaust even when the valves are closed, and when they're open it sounds similar to the 5.2 L.
