Big guy from wisconsin here

HELLO, from scott in wisconsin. I owned a 944 for about 15 years, but sold it when I had a child and had no time or money to spare. I have loved the 911 since I was a 10 year old kid. Many years ago I went to florida and could not find one I could afford that I wanted. So I bought a 944.

I am about 5 years from retiring and I am looking for a not too crazy expensive car for myself. Not sure I fit in a boxster or cayman. Not sure if a 996 is my answer. I am a big guy, so I have to see what I fit in. Considering a bmw 330i. E46 , OR M3 E46 . Cayman or boxster or 996 maybe. I dont think an air cooled 911 is in my budget these days.
I do some of my own work, brakes , suspension. Oil changes, clutch... but no body or paint or inside engine stuff. Hope to learn a lot here.

Have you tried a Boxster/Cayman or 911? Test fit yourself in the cars you're interested in and see what you think, Great place to be and we're always welcome to support anyway we can.

Welcome to the 6 and enjoy!

Thanks

My next step is just to sit in a boxster and cayman and 996 and see if I fit in none or one or all. My 944 was huge and comfy and wide. I fit in my 280 z and Lancia scorpion . I own a E 36 BMW 325, it's not big but I fit in it fine.

I have owned so mány huge cars and trucks, but want something smaller with a better road feel and more power to weight.

Totally other end but have your considered a GT-R? I am 6'3" and fit in mine just fine with plenty of legroom. As I'm sure you know they have LOTS of road feel and extreme bang-for-the-buck. Truly one of the best GT sports cars I've ever owned.

Thanks, not on my radar, I will check them out. I had a couple Z. cars, I liked them generally. Good gear box, good steering but not much road feel. 43 parts in each rear brake caliper because of the park brake.. priceless. I had a windshield wiper blow right off the car at about 115 mph coming back to Wisconsin from Minneapolis.

I checked them out. At least they have some with manual transmissions. A 2009 model might be ok price wise in a couple years. I am not ready to buy now... kind of getting the lay of the land. I was hoping for 20 to 25 K. In a couple years.. I always thought I could grab an older 911. Maybe mid 80's just before the G50 I would want... but can't afford. 150K Miles would be fine. Just presentable. No need for perfect.

I have owned VW , AUDI , PORSCHE , LANCIA , z. Cars , big v8 stuff.. I want something fun. And smaller, med faster. Great handling. Something you could drive around , but have fun at an entry level track day. I prefer to do as much work as I can myself.
