My name is Kris and I just found this forum, lots of great information!
We recently purchased a new 2025 718 Cayman.
It replaces my first Porsche which was a 2010 Cayman S 987.2 that ended up with 220K miles! We purchased it in 2013 when it had 40K miles, and I've driven it a whole lot. Many years of autocross here in San Diego and track days at Chuckwalla, Willow Springs, Buttonwillow and Laguna Seca.
I loved that car and in many ways its a part of me.
Back in May I was able to get an allocation for a custom build GTS 4.0 and configured that car exactly the way I want. It is supposed to deliver sometime between September-December, but my dealership has been very direct and transparent with me and I'm not sure how things are going to go down with the global economic situation, US tariffs, and international shipping drama.
In June I had the opportunity to drive two base model 718 Cayman examples that had the core options and configuration I care about (black/manual) and was pleasantly surprised by how they drove and the overall performance. So we ended up hedging our bet by purchasing one now with the plan of using it for the next few months and seeing how things go with the GTS 4.0.
The best case is its delivered in a reasonable time and at a price we can still afford. Then we trade in or find a private party buyer for this base model 718 and trade up!
The worst case is its delayed indefinitely, or carries a bump in the price that we cant make. In that case I still have this car which has been a joy to drive so far and is generally satisfactory overall.
