New 09 GT-R: Super Silver/Black Premium
I agree 100% that the mods are safe, I think 100 rwhp is nothing for the motor/tranny given it's not abused. My only concern is that GOD forbid something did happen...even if you uninstall the COBB the dealership will see that you ran more than stock boost, correct?

I believe the blackbox is helping everybody. Whether or not they know it, or want to admit it.
It helps Nissan gather R&D for future revisions (2400 owners carrying out millions of miles of free R&D).
It helps people sell the car (look - I've taken care of it).
It helps people buy the car used (look - he's taken care of it).
It helps gather thousands of points of data for thousands of cars to maintain a healthy world-wide database of possible issues, and then gives Nissan the ability to come up with a solution to these problems.
Where is the downside?
Like I've said before, in a previous ownership experience, I had premature brake wear. The dealer blamed my 'spirited driving'. I said I haven't driven hard at all. And I was unable to prove it. Now I won't have that issue. I guess I'm in the minority about my beliefs about the black box.
If you're one of those guys who's going to do high-rpm clutch dumps repeatedly, experience an issue, and then try to hide or sell it, then yeah, I could see why you wouldn't like it. But everybody who would consider buying the car, would really like to see that feature.

The ONLY reason I don't like it is that I can't put a COBB tune on the car and no one know!!!
I'm not a launch control 100 times kind of person nor do I abuse my cars...but man, 100 extra HP would be nice!

We've already had 1 transmission issue (by a forum member) on a GT-R with the Cobb AP installed. It was ruled not causing the failure, and the transmission was replaced, even after Nissan detected higher than normal boost levels, and the transmission was replaced.
As long as you treat it ok, no problem. If you want to just raise boost a little, have you looked into ASR's DLC?
About $600 (or so) - and you can plug in a boost module. It only controls boost - not AFR's or anything else. You can purchase them for any desired level of boost, but they are not adjustable.
I have not looked into the ASR module, never heard of it to be honest. But I would rather have a COBB that allows safe control of a/f and timing (not sure if it controls timing or not). Have you heard anything about the NISMO ECU? That sounds like a great factory warranty option...

It's not just the Cobb, you're worried about, it's the whole "What exactly is Cobb doing to the engine that you are worried" - thing.

Yeah peter its a tough choice to go with the cobb or not but once you feel the power difference.......your gonna slap yourself because you didnt get it quicker.

Out of all the piggy backs and such out there the cobb AP seems to have the best product out there now for the GTR, alot of followers, great customer service, and no splicing, cutting wires to install it. Well you can always go stand alone with Haltech. Should be out this month for the states!!!!
$3500.00 price i think.
Peter, here is your next garage mod. Another "black box" for the GT-R

Holy Moly!! The GTR tax is in full effect with that piece. You could print and have the graphics install for probably less than 100 bucks
Oh BTW peter have you seen the power on the Haltech. Almost 70 to 100 more whp than the cobb. This is with the same car, same mods, installed right after the dyno was done on the cobb. GTR tuning has made another large step up the ladder
