GTR, Gallardo or R8 5.2
The cars that we build here are street cars first and foremost. If we cannot offer the same OEM driveability that you find when you purchase the car at the dealer, then we would not offer the packages. Rarely, if ever, do we get requests to build an all out race car that runs rough at idle and has issues starting and driving in traffic. The R1K GTR's that we are jamming on right now offer that same driveability as stock but will make even grown men cry at wide open throttle.
997TT with our development package that soon became the R911 package.
Great point Scott, it will be interesting to see if the DFI motor can hold as much power as the stock GTR engine can. I can't see Porsche putting a weaker rod in the new engine than what was there before, but who knows. I do know that we made 806AWHP and 723AWTQ on a stock VR38DETT with bolt-ons.
I will say depends what you wants....
Bling and flashy will be Gallardo then follow by R8 then GTR.
Perofrmance and mod I think GTR (many mods to choose from) then Gallardo (beast with TT setup).
R8 I think the V8 version is an RS4 engine and I don't think that is a very mod friendly engine.

Best way to choose is by doing a test drive.
When I went to a Nissan dealer, the GTR in the showroom sounded worst than a 350Z. It sounded like a sedan. The interior looks boring and the boxy exterior reminds of a muscle car (camero). I lost interest. The maint isn't exactly cheap but still less than exotics. So that crossed GTR off of my list. It's a logical car but if that's what I want, I'd get a vette instead.
I never liked R8 styling and being that a new one is well over my budget, it was not a consideration.
The Gallardo is reliable, capable and has exotic looks and sound. Isn't that what you want? Yes, but the downside is it's not a practical car. It's an exotic car. Car is a pain to drive when in traffic.
So bottom line is, do you want a muscle car that is your only car OR do you want an exotic car as your weekend missle?

Good thread! If I were in your situation:
If I were planning to mod, I would probably go with the G, and send her to UGR. If warranty is an issue, buy the 2012 GTR and driver her with light mods for awhile. I think the car will be fast enough out of the box with a tune and some bolt ons and a couple of years down the road when you get bored, send her to switzer and let them build you a monster! I personally think the R8 is the nicest looking of the trio, but if speed is what you're after, I would be forced to say you are basically choosing between the G & GTR.

2009 GTR's are dropping into the low 60's and upper 50's now IIRC...
Stock powertrain - P800, traps 138 on street tires, low 10's possible with drag radials. Spools like stock and drives like stock. With over 50 of those on the road today you can't go wrong.

You might also consider an R8 or R8 V10 with a VF-Engineering or Statis supercharger. An R8 V10 with Stasis would be plenty enough for a lot of people (700 or so HP). Good looking, but very expensive...
