The service thing sucks.

I am ready to pull the trigger on a new GR-R, but one thing is holding me back. Does it bug anyone else that the service intervals are 6 mths? I think I have been spoiled by other cars most notably Porsche where the interval can be 2 years even though I do it once a yr. The nearest GT-R tech is about 65 miles away, even though there are 2 Nissan dlrs closer. How do other owners get around this?? Life is to short to have to take a day off every 6 mths and plan a weekend around getting the car serviced. I want to be out driving!

Yeah, I just purchased a 2012 GTR and also have a 2006 997S. Big difference on service but I must tell you...the GTR is an amazing vehicle. The car is so fast and looks fantastic. I get more attention in this car than I do my 997S! HAHA. Good luck!

Y, the maintenance schedule is basically pulled from the page of a regular japanese car using non-synthetic oil.

Make sure you search around here or on nagtroc for the actual total ownership costs (in particular oem brake replacement cost and cost of the tranny fluid swap) before you take the plunge. Cost-wise I went in eyes open but the scheduled stop every 6 months is frankly starting to wear on me.

65 miles is quite a trek for me. When I went into this purchase, I was contemplating a bunch of cars (to include Aston Martin, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Lotus, Audi R8, etc...), and those dealers were too far away. I'd recommend just getting the oil changed locally, and the POS (once a year) at the dealership). The fact that my dealer is only 3 miles away from my house, was a big deciding factor in ownership.

I too am considering a GTR and just drove one today. However, now I'm really starting to think about total cost of ownership. What all is required every 6 months?

An oil change.

Major fluid changes are every ~20000 miles, and cost me about $1k.

Getting it done this week, in fact - fluids $700, labor $300

Thanks JasperGTR. Didn't I read somewhere that for 2012 the fluid changes are higher - 36,000 miles. And that these intervals should work for pre 2012 cars as well as Nissan has learned that with such intervals the car would do fine.

Lucky Eff, not sure what you mean by "left anymore forums." I assume you mean are there any more forums left for me to join and post at? Probobly not! I'm going to know all I can before taking this plunge!

You know, when it comes to the 2012, I became a little upset that I didn't have one, so I started to disregard some of the material floating around. It may very well be (especially now that 2500 owners are driving their cars for almost 3 years, and more than a few are approaching 36,000 miles). What better source of information than thousands of owners actually doing all of this?

As far as the intervals, I read the Euro-models had a larger interval, but ours (specifically did not - at the time). The fluids are the same, the transmissions are the same..., I don't see why the intervals would not be the same.

Do you know anyone that has sent their oil samples in? I do oil analysis with blackstone labs, and one thing I found out is that I could extend my oil change intervals from every 2 track weekends (4 days, 1000 miles) to every 3 track weekends (6 days, 1500 miles). I'm sure someone with a GTR has some of this information?

Shawn Hayes (on another forum) has gone through great lengths to educate the owners there about the effects of various fluids, mixtures of fluids, in various environments, etc...

It helps that he tracks as well. A couple of the guys have posted this information.

I don't get my oil changed after every event either. In fact, I will stretch it to 3 weekends if they are in the winter (lower temps). In the summer, I tend to do this every other event, regardless if it is needed or not.
