Rector chipped my paint. Any recourse?

Hey everyone,

I want to share my story and see if anyone has any ideas for me.

I brought my car into Rector for maintenance. I also had new tires put in as well as warranty my rear tail light.

After picking up my car, I noticed the paint chipped right above the tail light as if someone tried to wedge a screw driver in it.

I brought it back to Rector and they even said the same (for how it looked). They then said they didn't do it and even went as far to say maybe my wife tried to take out the tail light and chipped the paint. They even brought out the tech who denied any wrong doing. In short they said sorry.
, nothing we can do.

I'm pissed to say the least, and want to know if anyone has had similar experiences or ideas for what I can do.

I may just pay to respray to fix, but thought first to ask everyone here - or at a minimum share my experience.

Gosh, sorry to hear your mess.

Try talking to the owner. If its a fresh chip how can they deny the damage?

I make it a habit to walk the car with the service manager when cars are dropped off (don't matter if its a dump truck)

Then walk the car at pick up (don't matter if its a line of people shaking their heads at me)

This habit has saved me THOUSANDS over the years and TONS of he said she said.

* Most of the time I keep a digital camera with me.

Before I have snapped 4 pics @ 8 meg while the car is delivered (each side)

if all is ok at pick up "delete the pics"

One time at the BMW dealership ... at pick up, I had a rear bumper scar.

Pulled out the dated drop off pic with the car in the delivery section (no questions, BMW dropped me in a rental and repaired the car) "done"

8 meg can ZOOM in on a small chip just fine. (before "no chip" / after "chip")

beside escalating up to the owner or general manager, there isn't much you can do other than bad repping them on all the forums and yelp. you can try suing them in small claims court.

if you end up fixing it out of pocket, L&M Mobile Touchup does a great job. Tell Luis the orange lambo guy sent you. http://lmcartouchup.com/

You can also file a complaint with the BBB. The BBB will contact the dealer and request a response. You can also complain to Porsche's customer service line. And when you get your survey, make sure you mark "poor" for everything. This is if you're positive they damaged your paint.

Seems odd that they would deny it outright, especially if they had been working on that part or specific area of the car. Even more strange that they would accuse your wife? Seems like something they should take care of as a good will gesture, even without knowing for sure how it happened. That's what a different dealer did for me when something was damaged in the interior after I got the car back.

Appreciate all the kind words and suggestions. Frustrating for sure on how the situation was handled, though I've left my remarks on the survey and have sent a letter to the dealership.

Lessoned learned and I will be walking my car with my mobile phone upon drop off as h1sp suggests. They've lost at least this customer which is a shame for both parties as I'm only an exit away.

I always advise people who come in here to do a walkaround with our mount and balance manager before we get to work on their car. Stuff happens, and it's just good business.
