Ford Focus ST Test Drive

I had a chance to drive the Focus ST at their driving event yesterday afternoon at Candlestick. It's a fun little car -- but contrary to what they claimed, it still seemed to have quite a bit of understeer (I couldn't get the car to rotate as much as I would have liked on their autocross course). Also, they asked us to stay in 2nd gear (after the start) for the entire course, as there would be plenty of torque available. Well, there was some torque -- but not quite as much as what I'm use to .

For our SoCal buddies, their last stop is down in L.A. next weekend (Dodger Stadium). Although it looks full now, you might check again in a few days as I know they had some spots opened up in the Bay Area in the last few days. All in all, a fun thing to do on a Saturday afternoon.

Yes, it was a good event. You got to do 2 laps on an untimed course to get use to the car, then you got 4 laps on the timed course. If you got very close to the best time, they let you do a couple more laps to try and beat the best time.

As you might expect, the Porsche Worldshow event a couple years back was much higher end, but this was still fun -- especially in reminding me of my autocross days way back in the day.
