Philly Area 6Speeders!
I know a lot of you guys really like them, but I have to disagree here. I think Ian's car is so sweet. The wheels and suspension are so simple, but perfect. I wouldn't trade that car for an M3.
me neither

Its a purist thing...something about the e30 is just too powerful to let go by...the adoration of these machines is something unlike many have EVER seen...yes...even with the porsche crowd...

Ok no problem....just dont try to cash it!!!

Seriously though, I agree with Kevin on this one. While i know all about the "magic" of the E30 M3 (i hear ya Drew) i think that car would only be cool IN ADDITION to your 997S. I mean, if you bought a 'cherry' one, would you really want to take it out on Rt100 and ROMP it like you can your car now?
I dont know...seems like more of a collector/light track duty car than how you seem to use your car now. I could be way wrong though (i have been before

Jon,
I've been struggling with this for over a year. I've got someone who has one in near mint condition without rust that is mechanically sound and I've promised myself if I found this car, I would buy it. Honestly, the 911 is just a toy that I cruise in; I don't really drive it that hard because the limits are so high that it's dangerous to push it on public roads. Part of me thinks I'd be much happier in something older that I could just cruise up to the Saturday meets in and put a couple thousand miles per year.
Plus, not to diminish the 997 but they aren't exactly rare and limited. The number of clean E30 M3s on the market are diminishing and I feel like if I don't buy one now, the one I eventually buy will be a real project.

Ian,
Sounds like your mind is made up already
I for one think that car (E30 M) is sickness and will be the first one in line for a ride if/when you get one.

Always been a fan of the E30 M3. What year are you looking at, BTW? My first new car was a 1991 BMW 318is (four-banger). Still one of the best cars I'll ever have.
Net sum, do what makes you happy. If you're looking for a keeper, the E30 M3 is definitely a classic. (No offense to the 997, naturally.) You can drive it hard without going into triple digits, although that body work in anything but black will draw the attention of every cop within a 50 mile radius

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. He isn't really going to market it for a few months so I've got time to mull it over. I'm not entirely sure what I want to do just yet.
