What a Day! (993 story)

6 Speed,

So yesterday (Saturday the 18th) the weather was perfect as most of you know....and i had the "opportunity" to help out a fellow 6 Speeder, good friend, and all around Porsche maniac with some 'car logistics' and WOW what a blast it was.

Started out by washing my Cayman S and rolling to his crib somewhere on the main line area...parked my slab and hopped into a PERFECT 993 C4S (ocean blue over cashmere) and piloted that up the PA turnpike (obeying all posted speed limits of course) to a secret location where another vehicle of his will be stored for a little nap.

Then i chauffeur 'the dude' to the next location --- secret spot #2 to scoop up a 1 of 1 993 Turbo from its hiding place. Unreal watching this car roll out of its cave and into the day. SICK!

So then i hop into the Turbo and OMG what a different beast than the 993 C4S. Clutch is way softer, steering smoother, and the POWER. The car just rockets out at any speed/any rpm. Truly an amazing car to drive.

So we stop and have lunch in Skippack, PA at a cool little spot (Cabana Bar?) where the two 993's stole the show in parking lot. Even the Harley guys took a break from their Coors Lights to watch us pull in and roll out. (i MIGHT have revved the exhaust a little too).

Then a twisty ride home - most spent in 2nd and 3rd gears - through the countryside and back onto 476 for one final blast before tucking them away for the night.

Hop back into my Cayman (which felt like a space ship after having been in those two "older" Pcars for 5 hours) and calmly rolled home.

What a day!!! And major thanks to MR. 993 for letting me "help out"

Thanks for the call. You know I live only about 10 min from Skippack right??

Oh, and on a completely separate topic, how bad is the damage from the other night? Didn't seem to bad in the dark but things can be completely different in the daylight.

Those cars are true beauties, but the awd circa 90"s truck you guys had out is still one of my favorites!

View of the 993C4S Aero INSIDE the Typhoon!

Jon,
Was one heck of a day, brotha'! Thanks for the help moving the cars around. Here's a pic I took INSIDE the Typhoon of the 993 C4S Aero II. If you squint, you can see your left hand caressing the car's roof!

Hmmm... or is that CARessing the car's ruf?

PearlCoupe, Is the 993 that much of a different ride from the water cooled cars? Ive take a few test drives in 996's and 997's but have not walked away as impressed as I expected from reviews in magazines/online.

If anyone knows where I could find a 993 to test drive that would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure how soon I plan to make a purchase but once I narrow down which specific model (993, 996, 997) then I can hunt down a color and options.

Very Different. Other guys here can tell you more than I but I have driven a few 993's, many 996's, and owned a 997.....and the 993 is much more involved - raw - pure. The speed is def lacking in the cars tho - 996/997 feel MUCH quicker but the susp on the 993s is tight and the cars feel 'small' so the handle is def there.

Test drive a 993?....you should try HOLTS in West Chester, PA. They have plenty there and if you are for real they should let you take one out.

...and if that doesnt work offer me $500 and ill steal TorqueChaps for the day

Thank you for the tip on Holts! I had never heard of them but will definitely plan to stop in one weekend. Quite a variety of air coiled cars on their site.
