We are planning on taking a short road trip from Northern Va to philly in Nov. I have always wanted to try some authentic philly cheese steaks. We will be headed from there to some other places and into harrisburg for the night.

questions still stands though, Geno's or Pat's? We though of getting half from each place, one to eat there and one for the road.

I know some of you all did a Mid-A trip up there, where did you eat?

 

You are going to get a lot of people throwing out a lot of different places as well, Tony Lukes, Jim's, Steve's etc

Between Pat's/Geno's I'll take Pat's anyday! Getting 1 from each and splitting them is a good idea since they are right across the street from each other. Jims and Tony Lukes isn't far either. I would say Tony Lukes out of the bunch though. Jims it too dry imo.

 

As coming up from a distance and wanting to go home bragging about visiting a Philly cheesesteak landmark, get one from each (I prefer Genos) but you will be less than a mile from the best sandwiches in the area. Tony Luke's. Everything from their cheesesteak to the roast pork or chicken cutlet are the best. If you are comnig up, come hungry, try them all, and make your own choice which is best.

Thanks for the insight Kevin, Iwish i could say i could even eat a whole philly cheese steak. I am a light eater so i might grab a cheesesteak for lunch hang around the area and drop in tony lukes later on after we see some other landmarks i supposse.

I am hoping that i can park somewhere and its less like DC to get around? or am i going to have to pay to park in a garage somewhere?

 

Parking is much easier than DC. But, as with any big city, it will depend where you are going. For the sandwich shops, parking will be easy, they are all in SOuth Philly and its simple street parking. If you are going into town to see some of the sites, you can put the car in a garage and either walk or take short cab rides around. Its a very easy city to get around.

We did go, I had posted images etc elsewhere and forgot about updating you all.

We did not get to tony lukes, philly was....well..... "interesting"

We got one from each and I must say i Loved Pat's, it was chopped up steak and a ton of cheese wiz. The bread tasted good as well.

Geno's however was kinda gross, i felt like I ordered a $8 steak-um sandwich. There was barley any cheese and it was soaked into the bread. Almost tasted like a frozen sandwich re-heated.... kinda nasty!

Next time we go through we will have to try tony lukes. We hit the art museum, and Saturday went to nissley vineyards near three mile island.

 

You want to go to Jims next time. Pats and Geno's are tourist traps. Go to Jims on South St. There is a good safe lot down by approx 2nd and Front you can park in and walk up South St to Jims. There is also one in the suburb Springfield about 15 mins off of I95 if you do not want to do the city etc...

 

Jims is worth going to but I think it's by far the most dry, I would skip Jims and go to Tony Lukes instead

 

jms is garbage.i lived walking distance to pats and genos. i drove to tony lukes.
if you feel like heading up to the northeast, mikes is great. also a big fan of ******.

Now if its for a car meet, I prefer Tony Luke's because they have the sports bar across the street with a parking lot.

My favorite steaks though in Philly have to be Jim's
