I would seek legal advice. You have been harrassed as a direct response to your moral obligation to report a possible crime. It is illegal to be fired for this -- there are very strict "whistleblower" laws. Even if you don't want your job back (which is untenable anyway) there are potential enormous punitive damages at stake.

Secondly, I'd write your story down and mail it in to Komo, King and KCPQ. I am sure that a public outcry will rightfully put this perv's career to an end.

Remember that (verifiable) truth is the perfect defense to any slander/libel case if you are concerned about repurcussions on going (further) public about this.

Did I mention that you should seek *professional* legal advice ?

Mitchel, I finally read this thread and kudos to you. That kind of crap pisses me off more than i can express on this post and there isn't a goddamn thing acceptable about it. Having a child of my own, child molestation and pornography deserves only one outcome in my mind and I've posted a few photos of the justice i'm thinking about. Frankly, i don't care if the perv's filming it or watching it, they should have the same fate. I hope you are going to the gathering on Sunday because i'll come just to shake your hand brother. Its very encouraging to see some younger, socially responsible people in this world.

Dam, I feel your pain!! I was laid off 3 days after my Maui Vacation. They used a small out source company to cover for my vacation, they screwed things up royally, to the point I worked 3 days on my vacation. Then when I got back, fixed all the broken stuff they told me it was my last day!

So, I'm with you, not doing IT, & not really looking.

The worst part is now, you have the time, just not the extra $$!

Mitchell, my GF is a Partner @ a big local law firm, who specialized in employment law. If you have any proof that they fired you for "whistle blowing" you have a case, if not, it's going to be hard to prove.

However, you should find a attorney & start a case, they should settle quickly & quietly with you. PM me, if you want to take it off line.

Washington State is "At Will" Employment.

Their official reasoning as to why I was let go was because "I was looking for employment elseware"...but they knew that for months. The HR director was begging me to stay 2 months before I left the company even.

HR said, and I quote "This is not a work related issue, but you cannot talk about this outside of this office". I did just the opposite, One night while drinking with our GM (Goldies Baby!), I told him about this whole fiasco. The very next day, he goes into the HR directors office and says "What the hell, I don't want to work with this pedophile, etc etc etc, like ANY sensible person would do".

The VERY next day, My boss (incompetence extrordinaire). Asked me why I talked about it and I basically told him that if it wasn't a work issue as HR said and it wasn't said on work hours that they can't do a damn thing about it and that if the GM doesn't want to co-exist with the VP, that I don't blame him.

Then a few weeks after that, after my boss got back from Surgery..."Mitchel, step into my office"...30 seconds later... I throw them my keys, rip up their little thing they wanted me to sign and didn't say a word as I walked out...with 3 people basically nipping at my heals on the way out and our HR director running behind me going "Shhh, Shhh, go back to work" because she doesn't want me to tell the rest of them =).

Lets say I were to sue Western Pedophile (hehe). Lets say I get $500,000 from them. Not bad I guess. I also think they're trash talking me when people call for employment references (my boss and my opiad addicted HR Director aren't smart at all). Which really annoys me.

Is a the potential of winning a lawsuit worth the negative affects? IE, Company's don't really seak out "Whistle Blowers" Especially in regards to IT, when you're a sys admin and are privilege to all information within the company, shared folders, network drives, HR drives etc etc, it doesn't exactly put a shiny gold star on a person's resume.

I'll think about it while I'm cleaning out my hot tub tomorrow and get back to you on it.

Do what you can do.
All in all, unfortunately you're better off moving on.

You sir, are very correct. I'd also vouch for the story going to the local news stations.

Mitchel, like it or not, you're representing IT professionals everywhere. Certainly seek legal advice first just to make sure you have your bases covered before you unleash hell.

Eh,

Going to a news station wouldn't be the best idea. A. They wouldn't care B. They wouldn't care and C. Legal Council would tell me NOT to go to any news outlet =P

You should take the story to Kube 93 so they can have a reason to stop playing the same songs over and over for at least 5 minutes
