I would agree with you on the Benz, I love the C Class its a great looking car and is very well engineered. In terms of a dealership I would high suggest Barrier, my transactions with them have been extremely pleasurable and their car wash is pretty nice also! If you'd like I would be more then happy to put you in touch with my contacts there.

You don't need AWD to not get stuck in the snow, all you need is a set of decent winter tires.

AWD doesn't change the laws of physics.

^^^agree, however, you do want to avoid rear wheel drive (we found out the hard way with our MB). I also recommend Barrier and can give you some names if you need. Good luck. (PS: if your mom buys from Barrier, she can have free carwashes for as long as show owns the car at their carwash facility in Bellevue).

If you want to avoid getting stuck in the snow few things you have to think about.

Traction? Good studded snow tires will make any car amazing on ice, ok on snow and junk in wet and absolutely horrible in the dry. AWD will bring new confidence that usually doesn't last long if your on bald tires or summer tires.

Ground Clearance? Even if you have the tires for the job what happens when you can't get over that giant snow bank.

Final Answer? For something you wont kick yourself about and the most bang for your buck get a set of studded snow tires leave them in the garage and mount when !@#$ happens. You'll get through 90% of the BS on the road. Why waste the money?

If she is stuck on getting something new I'd endorse a good awd merc.

I would also look at the Audi A4 or A6. The cars are amazing in WA state weather and have beautiful interiors.

The C class is a great looking car, but small in size compared to the Lexus GS or the M35.

One other thing beyond winter driving in AWD is rain weather driving. These cars are great and and Audi might be my personal next purchase.

Talk to Kevin at Laron Audi or talk to Brook or Steve at Barrier

I am thinking about an S4 next month but would love an S5. Either that are a Subi Legacy 2.5GT. They are all great cars and it is really a buyers market now.

I absolutely love my Audi, and my Benz has done a whole lot of sitting since I bought the S4. In the snow the car never hesitated. Now I'll admit, I grew up in North Dakota, so I have some experience in the snow driving. But compared to the Merc, the Audi is easily the easiest drive in the world in inclement weather.

As for dealerships, I'm three cars in at Barrier and they have always impressed me. I won't go anywhere else.

Well, has she sat in everyone of them? Make sure she actually looks around first. I wish my mom had done that... IF she likes the Lexus Go to the Lexus of Bellevue, Free Car washes, Roadside assistance and good coffee from the place, GREAT customer service. Anyone else have any good dealerships to recommend to them?

my 2 cents which is really only worth about a half pence.

Why buy a new one? In 3 months she'll have forgotten about this most recent snow blast and wondered why she blew all that extra money on a car 5 months before the biggest car pricing adjustment ever to hit the world.

Buy a 2 year old car and save 60% of the money in a couple of months. Buying a new car now is financial suicide. When Toyota posts loss's you have to ask yourself what's really going to happen to the price of cars. Most car loans are backwards 10-50% and when people lose their jobs and walk away from a bad car loan the banks will dump these 1-2 year old cars for $.30 to .50 cents on the dollar.

Your 40k mercedes benz will be worth 25k in 6 months and she'll be upset when we have no more snow.

If you must buy new forget about the UGLY Benz or Boring Lexus and buy an Audi it's made to drive in inclimate weather. The others are just marketing schemes.

If your from Tacoma don't drive to Bellevue to buy a new car. The eastside is consistently more expensive for cars. On the other side I'm not a fan of Larson Dealerships or Lexus of Tacoma so that does pose a small problem for a recommendation on my end.
www.autotrader.com and look up 2006 cars you'll save a butt load and maybe have some money left to modify that little WRX thing you drive
