The racing is very real, & very good! The plot of the movie is just ok. But the driving parts are why you watch it.

He is really driving the car! No stunt drivers.

I saw the 1971 film in the theatre, and now I'm all fired up to watch it again. Yes, the cars are the stars, and I remember that the plot is funky. "Racing driver David Piper lost part of his lower leg in a crash during the shooting"

When filming the Ferrari crash, the crew computed the exact amount of fuel to get the car to the crash point to elminate the fire risk to the driver.

Interesting to note that 917L's were clocked around 256 mph down the Mulsanne straight back then. Track cars today have improved only marginally.

Now, where can I rent that film for this weekend . . . .

LeMans...

Mark PM me your address and I will loan you my copy. GrandPrix is also a great movie from that same timeline. For x-mas I got a great documentary on the CanAm series, it could be worth a watch as well. I will send you all three as long as you get them back to me =)

Mark, I'm in for a movie night. Sounds like fun. For a car-oriented film, I recommend the Driver series from BMW. I have the DVD with all 8 film shorts and they are awesome to watch in sequence. Definitely appeals to every car enthusiast.

Here are my all-time faves:

Matrix 1: "
Tank: Okay. So what do you need, besides a miracle?" Neo: "Guns. Lots of guns."

Pulp Fiction: "Do you know what they call a Quarter Pounder with cheese in France?"

Old School: "It tastes so good once it hits your lips!"

Holy Grail: "Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!"

Princess Bride: "Have fun stormin' da castle!"

Scarface: "Say HELLO to my l'il friend!"

300: "This is Sparta!"

Add the Labyrinth to that one, those are two movies growing up that are classics to me.

Boondock Saints (seriously who doesn't like this, can't wait for 2nd one coming out)
Bad Santa (had me in tears)
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back: hey yo this #$%^#@ said he'd #$%! a sheep
Shooter
Four Brothers
Ronin
The Dark Knight
Event Horizon (pry my favorite horror film as it doesn't really deal with monsters, psychos etc)
Usual Suspects
Office Space

having a brainfart on others

I just couldn't take Jeff Bridges as the bad guy in Iron Man after seeing him as the Dude

I almost forgot Full Metal Jacket, ******, Fight Club, Tommy Boy, Easter Promisses and Man on Fire
