What do you think I should do? I found a duffel bag...

This morning when I was driving out of the driveway and came to a STOP sign, I saw a duffel bag right under the sign. i stopped and came out taking a look at it. I didn't see anybody at the time. I opened the bag and found money in it. Now it's in the trunk of my car. From the look of it, it has at least hundred thousands.

What do you think I should do? keep it or turn it in to the police?

here is my thought: I'm thinking of turn this in to the police (of course its the right thing to do - to give back the rightful owner). Now will the police actually try to find whose money belongs to or will they just put it into Uncle Sam account? Because of this would be happening, I'd rather keep it than let Uncle Sam has it.

duffel bag with $$..hilarious,,,u serious? Was it close to your house? You can keep it..but it prob belongs to someone who will be looking for it...If that someone happens to be a an elderly who saved it up all his life to go buy his Porsche you will just feel bad...but If it belongs to a a drug dealer who placed the bag there on purpose I am sure he will be looking for it and wont be giving you a rewards fee and you will feel more than bad afterwards...

btw....Are you sure its genuine?

McDBrendan Feb 19, 2009 01:37 PM

I would stop talking about it on the net now...

Either way, they may take it for a while, and if it is not claimed within a certain time period, could be all yours.

Is this for real? Isn't that everyone's dream right there? To just find a bag of money just laying in the street.

Now, you don't know who's money that is or if it was meant for someone. Someone could have been watching that bag for a pick up, including drugs or ransom. If you keep it, I hope you have a gun. Someone may come looking for it....

It was like a block from my house. My first thought in mind at the time is to turn in to the police and let them find rightful owner. But then I don't know if the police will actually try to find the owner or will they just keep it for their police department? I don't think once I turn in to the police, and they can't find the owner that they will give back to me and say " here, you can keep it"

Well, in this neighborhood there are really no crimes. just retirees. and i really doubt if this belongs to one of these retirees - because i'm pretty sure all their money are in the bank accounts :)

and no i don't have a gun unfortunately.

Go buy 75 cases sparkling water that your wifes parents arrogantly drank and give the rest of the money to their son and daughter in Vietnam. Both of your threads fixed in one swoop. Your welcome

Yeah cats out of the bag now...dont you know a local pd cop there that you can talk about it. If someone really lost..they will file a claim with a PD..If its criminal related they will take matters in there own hands. Whoever claims the money from the PD will have to show where that money came from. Look inside the bag...see if its genuine first or if there is a name/number or drugs in it...If its contraband of some sort you could be arrested for possession. PM me if you find something out of the ordinary I will point you in the right directon.
