Italian Concours - 2010
Hi Gang,
Some of you might have already heard that we are going to have to cancel the Italian Concours this year! We hated to do it, but the Des Moines Marina will not be ready in time for our event. In fact, the city of Des Moines has had to cancel their 4th of July celebration, as well as their "Classic Car and Wooden Boat Show" too. Photo attached to show what the site looks like as of last week.
However, we wanted you to know that we are working with Cat's Exotics and Griot's Garage to host an "Italian Gathering" for all of us at Griot's new facility down in Tacoma (the old Coca-Cola Bottling bldg.). Their new facility is STUNNING!!!!!! (Artist Concept attached). The new facility will have parking for 150+ cars in their parking lots, grass, etc..
Stand by for more updates as we get the details hammered out. The date will be sometime in Mid-July. We thought this would be a great event to have so we can all stay in touch until next years Italian Concours. Here is the letter that we are sending out to all the Vendors & Sponsors:
Dear Vendor/Sponsor, etc….
We regret to inform you that we will be unable to present the Italian Concours d’Elegance this year. Unfortunately, the Des Moines Marina is currently undergoing significant construction and will not be finished in time for any summer events this year.
We have considered other venues brought to our attention; however the effort required to move the venue, just for one year, was beyond our abilities at this point.
The City of Des Moines is significantly upgrading the Marina, which we feel will ultimately benefit the Concours for 2011 and beyond. Furthermore, we have given significant thought to the overall organization of the show and have decided to no longer charge entrants to display their vehicles. This is somewhat of a financial risk, especially after suffering the effects of the rain last year. Nonetheless, we feel that it is a timely move and will ultimately create a stronger event. We intend to increase our efforts to get a larger public attendance, significantly more vehicles, and to continue to expand our sponsor and vendor support.
This was not an easy decision and was arrived at only after considering many factors. We are looking forward to a new Marina and a revitalized and improved Concours for 2011.
We thank you for your past support and look forward to working with you in 2011.
The Board of Directors, Italian Concours d’Elegance
We'll see all of you soon!
