If they are not a fantastic driver, or do not have seat time in a particular car you do not know the car well enough to properly enjoy it at its limits, which is where it is most fun. I always try to compare cars to horses. If you are a bad rider on a regular horse, getting onto a fast and wild one is the last thing you need to be doing.

If you want to give him the gift of speed for a bday gift get him a gift certificate for a driving school where he can push the limits safely and learn some useful techniques.

Leasson #2, never listen to the wife, but always let her know she is right.

Tough decision for you Trevor. Portland is a little more than a stones throw away and a lot can happen out there with all the construction along the way. I would also vote for not letting him drive it down there, but on the same note I know how judgmental and over critical Asian families can be when it comes to something like that. The best approach in my opinion is to say no, but offer a gift at the same time. Kind of a soothing after the initial hurt. By the way my birthday was last month, can I back date a drive?
