I have had my Xkr-s for 1 year/8.5k mi and have had no problems thus far. This generation of Xk has been around for a while and there are very few problems. The service is free for the first 4 yrs. The basic service is every 12 mo or 15 K mi. It is pretty standard stuff and I think spark plugs need to be changed at 100k miles. The only complaint that I frequently hear is that the battery doesn't last long.
The interior quality is at least as good if not better than the cars you mentioned. As far as the gearbox is concerned- it's a ZF, which is the best auto out there. You can use the paddles for quick shifts (not as fast as a dual clutch though) and it has great rev matching downshifts.
The jag is a great GT car and very different from the vette. Good luck with your search if you go that direction

Not an owner but have driven one and looked at them quite a few times. That XKR is a proper car and one worth the money. I had wished the seat moved a little more to the rear with more of a recline to the seat back for a taller driver. The wind buffet in the convertible is better than most of the others in class. The sound of the 510hp motor is great and intoxicating.

The interior quality looked very nice and you should compare it to the Vette if you dare. The electronics might be the weak pint according to some reviewers but reliability has improved. I look at them every time I am at the Audi dealership. That car is pure sex and I almost bought one.

XKR vs. Corvette

I have owned German Cars for 25 years or more. Currently have a 2011 Mercedes and a 2011 A-8 . The A-8 will be replaced in a mo. with an S-7.
I also have have a 1986 911 owned since new that I have tracked. Just sold my 2003 Turbo to buy an XKR-S. Haven't driven it much yet due to weather but I can tell you the build quality and leather, etc. is on par. J.D.Power rated the newer Jags at the top. If you are a Corvette owner you will love the loud V-8. Mechanics tell me the 5 Liter engine is bulletproof. Doesn't burn oil, etc. I have two friends that love their XK's.

Owned my 11 XKR for a bit over a year. Been great. Excellent build quality and I have owned several Porsche and BMW M cars. Also a C5 Z06, Viper GTS and more. This car is a perfect balance between beast and luxury. There is no better GT under $110k.

I got my 2011 XKR 175 in August 2010 and will hit 50,000 miles any day. Reliability has been excellent and the car still looks and drives like it's brand-new. The structure is still solid and rattle-free in spite of the horrible Chicagoland roads. Amazingly, the front brake pads still have many miles left. The rears have been replaced once.

For me, it's the perfect blend of comfort and brutal power. I like the fact that it can transition from luxury GT to crazy, unhinged beast in an instant. It can be a handful to drive fast, but that's just part of the charm.

I also like the fact that XKRs, especially coupes, are still fairly rare. It's definitely a head-turner, even in an area with lots of high-dollar cars.

It gets reasonable gas mileage (avg. 19 mpg), insurance is cheap, the quality is stellar, and the design is timeless and sexy...I just love this car!

Xkr

Just tracked XKR's at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 90+ heat all day.
I now have a greater appreciation for my XKR-S. Performance and reliability terrific. I was assured by instructors and other drivers of the reliability. Very predictable and fun to drive performance. Drove both the F-Type 6 and V8 on the track also. Good Porsche competition. 120 mph on the straight.
