fwiw...i think they've tried too hard to keep the lines of the 911. the front obviously looks good cuz it's of the 911 qualities...but the back looks terrible. they need to set aside the 'sports car' theme and build a car that first looks good by itself and then throw in some 'porsche' accents. If you had to work with this car, i think the back end would look better as a station wagon of sorts...to bring the lines to reflect a stretched sports car just doesn't work...just makes it look like their trying too hard.

in porsches defense...the color they chose to showcase the car probably wasn't the best choice either. If you click on the link and view the other photos, you'll notice it looks a bit better in black.

Relax Guy's! These are only mules. Although they give an indication of what the final car will look like, they are far from the final version.

Congratulations Porsche! You're designing a sedan that's uglier than the M5!

I grew up in a small village in Germany that was on the test route for upcoming Mercedes models. Almost every night we could see disguised test mules drive through, very often towing trailers. The mules were ALWAYS ugly; front, sides and rear heavily disguised. We got a feel of the overall size of the vehicle and could determine what type of Mercedes it was going to be. But the final product always looked much, much more attractive than we ever imagined.

While car manufacturers have to test their vehicles in real life scenarios, they have an interest in not letting the public or competitors know too early what the final product will be like.

I'm really curious to see what you guys write when the production verson of the Panamera is revealed. I would not expect all of you to love it, but I'm sure there will be a lot less critique.

I can already see that the Panamera will have a nice "waist", and expect its "butt" to be quite attractive, once the diapers have been removed. Also, the doors of the test mules have thick paneling, which makes me wonder what's hidden underneath.

I know a few people who have seen the final or near-final design in Weissach (they work there), and have assured me it will look stunning. I can't ask them for specific details, as they are under non-disclosure. But I trust their judgement...

Looks and reliability are ancillary to the badge, BMW has proven that recently.
