What the hell is Porsche thinking?
"we're just talking about beauty in the eye of the beholder, as it were..."
exactly and sales will tell the story in the end!
Those guys who are bashing the Pana don`t even even make precise distinctions of the parts they like or don`t like. i cannot take anyone of their comments seriously. there may be parts (for example roofline, rear) one could find odd looking but it is simply pure ignorance to call it ugly in toto, simple as that. u guys cannot be true Porsche Fans, who try to understand the concept and the history that has been translated into that car (928, CGT etc.).

Porsche has been trying to fit a 4 door 4 seat car into the line up for over 20 years. I'm glad they finally figured out a way to do it. The car looks great in person and interior is top notch. True Porsche fans understand that the company needs the Cayenne and Panamera to be able to keep the 911 and to continue to build more advanced vehicles in the future. Profit is not a dirty word and in the end everyone will benefit if the Panamera is a hit. Lets start talking nicer about the newest Porsche Family member and then hold on when the next gen 911 comes out. If Panamera flops we all know what that could mean to our beloved Porsche AG. Running a negative Nancy clan will only potentially hurt Porsche. Just think you could be turning a potential buyer into a shopper with your negative words. In closing for those True Porsche Fans out there get behind the Panamera like it or not or you can only blame yourself if you get the same 911 for the next decade or so.
@vtandon, u say u are true Porsche Fans and that´s why u don`t like the panamera but u like the Cayenne, huh?
Here is the message: The Panamera is no 911 but it is much closer to the real Porsche DNA than a Cayenne will ever be, that´s for sure.
part of an interview with chief designer Mauer (a few months back):
`For me, the new Panamera is a typical Porsche since it is using typical Porsche design elements and design DNA’ Mauer says.
He points to the high fenders, v-shaped hood shutline and air intake as being strong Porsche cues. Mauer says that in developing the Panamera, they looked at all Porsche cars from the past and present and in particular at the CGT, `because that is the high-end Porsche’ for inspiration. for example the front of the car and the raised center console on the inside is influenced by that car...`
by the way: the back end influenced by the 928, also 356 etc. etc.

I haven't seen it in person yet, but I just talked to my friend who was at the Frankfurt show and he said the car looks beautiful. Before he saw it in person, basing his opinion on the mag pictures he said the car was fugly. Now he said he'd buy it in a heartbeat if he could afford one
Great posting Catchmyshadow! I couldn't have stated it any better. I could really stir the pot by saying the Boxster is actually the closest vehicle Porsche has in its line up to Ferry Porsches original No. 1. Yeap like it or not the Boxster is exactly what he had in mind. The 911 was his sons doing. So I credit them both for giving us a great product line add the Best driving SUV and an incredible sedan to the line up and Porsche has your family covered no need to buy a Benz or BMW if you have Porsche in your Blood. Great business move? I think so.
thx, i am pretty sure it is gonna be a success on the long run. For me it is simply the best sports sedan in the world and a more than good alternative to all the AMG, M, RS etc. vehicles out there. The only problem i see at the moment is the worldwide financial meltdown.
Sorry, I've got to agree with the original poster. I thought it's design cues might have grown on by now... but it's so proportionately unstable (by design standpoint - imo) that I can say without hesitation, I will never own this car. Unfortunate, because I really do like just about every other aspect of it...

Besides, everyone hate the Cayenne when it came out just 6 years ago, it is now everywhere.
we had this discussion before, imho the rapide is just a stretched DB9. It looks good but lacks its own personality. The back is more beautiful than the panamera´s but the rest is much more boring and less individual. besides that, i don´t think that it is anywhere as technically sophisticated as the Panamera.

what i am saying is, the rapide is a nice looking car but is it really visually different to a DB9? i don`t think so. AM could have easily called it the DB9-4. nobody would have wondered for a second, so campared to a panamera it of course lacks its own personality.
certain parts of the Panamera carry the DNA of some well known Porsche cars (CGT, 356, 928, Cayenne), but overall the car has a very own individual caracter. a stretched 911
?. i don`t think that anyone out there would mix up the panamera and the 911 on the road at all, but i think that many would mix up the Rapide and the DB9 at first sight. the only thing the 911 and the Pana really visually share is the badge imho.

There is one sitting at Park Place in Dallas and I am leaving to go drive it. Everyone at the dealership said "we will sell a bunch of these" and that "it looks better in person". The manager said the interior "puts the Cayenne to shame" I would like to see that. I have a CTS and the interior is awesome.
