I often don't listen to the radio while driving, prefer my own thoughts and listening to the car "work."

If you press the **** briefly once it only "mutes" the radio, and when you restart the car the radio is on, which means everytime I get in the car I basically have to turn it off (I know it isn't really a hardship, but seems silly to constantly have to push a button to undo something when not is use...I would have thought those wiley German engineers would have set it up for driver preference...but I can't seem to find a "radio off" mode.).

Pushing and holding **** turns off the whole PCM system, not just the radio.

Frustrating....

Has anyone figured out how to turn the radio off so that when the car starts up the radio isn't on, but you can still have the other PCM functions available (ie: camera, nav, car info)?

Try turning the radio off and saving the key settings (set button, then a number); do know it remembers the audio selections.

 

Even easier—just turn the volume down all the way instead of hitting the mute button. Unless you need to hear prompts from the navigation system, this should work. And the volume should be down when you restart.
