TPMS absolutely required for winter wheels?

Is it absolutely necessary to install tire pressure monitors on my winter wheels? Will the cars operate any differently if the sensors are not in place?

I do not want to take the existing sensors out of my summers, and don't like the idea of spending the $700 the dealer wants for additional sensors.

Thanks in advance.

Has zero effect on the car. You may be watching the "TMPS" fault light all winter long though as it will not be receiving info from the wheel sensors so the receiver will "think" the sensors are damaged or have dead batteries.

I ordered a set of TPMS and valve stems for my winter wheels from Suncoast for $484 including shipping. Still not cheap, but way better than $700. I figured after the cost of winter wheels and tires that I wasn't going to cut corners for an extra $120 per tire/wheel.

^^ if you go that route you will pay a service department to reprogram the car's TPMS receiver to the new wheel sensors each time you change the set of wheels.

the car auto learns the sensors in each corner..

i have an extra set...if you want them, porsche sensors and porsche stems.. i had them for track use... .. when you add new wheels/sensors the car asks you to go into system and click "learn" drive 2 miles and they all come up in system

They work on both Panamera and Carrera(09+) the Cayenne uses different sensors.

Email me @ Wa1l1in@yahoo.com if interested

I put my winter wheels and tires on today and as per the post above, the car recognized the new sensors in a couple of minutes. The sensors are OEM that I ordered from Suncoast. $484 sensors and valve stems shipped. The ones for sale in the post above are obviously a great deal.

I bought from TireRack $95/each one. I think its a must. The error message would drive me crazy. I just pu tthem on and it learned the senors automatically aswell. With my lexus I had to pay $100 each time to have them set the sensors.
