Panamera 3.6 V6 Turbo Upgrade
SubscribeSince 3.6 V6 engine is the same as V8 with 2 fewer cylinders taken off from the front of the engine does anyone know if turbos from TTV8, or new TT power option turbos can be fitted on the V6 engine. I assume this also will require some air intake parts from TTV8 and an ECU upgrade. I wonder if any of the tuners are exploring this option. The 3.6 V6 engine has a great low end torque but could use some help in the higher rpm range.

I suspect people will recommend you to just trade in the V6 for the V8, much easier.
I don't think any tuner will bother wasting time to add more power for the V6 as the V8 is so widely available.

I also wonder if the crankshaft and powertrain could handle the increased stress? I'm not sure its the same as the V8. Would have to check that.
Just because the engine is based on the V8...it may have certain limits to its engineering such that it would not be able to handle the turbocharging over the long term. Your warranty would def be gone.
You would also introduce turbo lagginess and lack of responsiveness into a responsive, high revving engine setup.
For the money the V6 is pretty good. The V8 is ideal, but expensive here in Canada (as much as Turbo in the US).

Agree that one would have to make sure that the V6 drive train is the same as at least in a NA V8. If yes, one could consider using a small, fast spooling turbo (minimal lag) to get an extra 100 lb of torque and 100 hp, which will put the moded car on par with a NA V8. If the engine block design and materials are the same (just 2 fewer cylinders) as the TTV8 block the durability should not be an issue.

Actually the responsiveness of the engine would go down significantly with turbos. On a sidenote, Engine are usually made responsive by lightweight components. I would also think to get those figures out the V6 you'd need serious boost, large turbos which equates with a decent amount of lag. Originally Posted by Advan

Although with PDK/an automatic gearbox, you won't notice or be bothered by the lag. Lag really annoys 6MT drivers, because engines lose their immediate responsiveness.
I switched to Panamera from 6MT 996TT and I guess I am missing the progressive torque and power with engine rpms. I love the comfort of Panamera but I am not that impressed with PDK. Shifting it manually is not that satisfying as the shifts are not instantaneous as one would you to believe based on its ability to shift gears in 0.1 sec. I guess the rev matching takes some time once you click the paddle. When shifting manual transmission one rev matches going into the shift.
The Panamera V6 needs frequent shifts to keep it in the power bend and it feels to me that the extra torque power in the higher rpm would help. I find that neither Sport nor Sprort Plus to be a good shifting program in the city driving. In the Sport mode I often need to downshift manually and in the Sport Plus mode the upshifts are too high in the rpm range. Somewhere in between Sport and Sport Plus would be a good compromise.
