Interesting ... "Passenger Airbag Off" light issue

Ok, as most on the board know I bought a Panamera last week. When I got the opportunity to drive it at night, I discovered that something interesting about the "Passenger Airbag Off" light. Here's how it currently works: Adult passenger in seat - Passenger Airbag Off light is OFF. 20 lb briefcase in seat - Passenger Airbag Off light is ON. Passenger seat EMPTY - Passenger Airbag Off light is ON. In my 997 Turbo, the light operates the same way for the adult passenger, and the briefcase, but when the seat is empty, the Airbag light is OFF! I would prefer it to be OFF if no one is riding with me especially at night. Since it is overhead, it lights up the interior more than I would like. Does everyone else's light stay ON when there is no passenger? Being the redneck that I am, I am inclined to cut a rectangular shaped piece of electrician's tape and just cover it up.... (I apparently don't know how to separate paragraphs on this board. That was supposed to be 3!)

dadc4s is infamous around these parts
Mine too. It is annoying and silly and it should not work this way. You need to know that the airbag is off when you have a passenger, who might be a child. Other than that, you don’t need that light on.

Well, I am going to put a piece of electrical tape over it. But, if I am in the car alone and have a wreck, I would appreciate it if every airbag in the car explodes! I can't see why you wouldn't want the passenger side bag to go off in the instance where you were hit in the driver's side door. Makes no sense to me.

Not sure I even want the driver's side front air bag popping if I get hit in the driver's side door; side air bags fine. Would rather not get it the face for no reason.
