No problem, thx!

Yesterday I taped up the gap at the top of the rear hatch and it did not make any difference. After further investigation, while the sound is similar, I am not sure it is the same cause as yours. My high pitch sound is extermely faint and seems to be coming from the front. In addition, the sound is not there when the engine is cold, but comes on after about 20min driving - and only at exactly 70-71mph and then disappears unless I stay at that exact speed. To me it feels like some type of resonance and I can almost convince myself it is getting fainter as I put more miles on the engine. Will keep an eye on this.

Panamera 4 loaner today for my Cayenne. Loud whistling at 45-55 mph. So annoying.

Meribela1, has the whistle stayed away?

My car exhibits small whistle sounds still at certain speeds. They are much quieter and not constant as before. I think raising the boot is maybe too much for me, but would like to know if it went away for good in your car, if it would get worse in my car.

Sounds like your rear hatch seal replacement has converted your issue to something more consistent with mine - very faint whistle at certain speeds. For me, in city driving or with the radio on I can't hear the noise, so I am reluctant to do anything major to the rear hatch to address. It is only with high-speed highway driving with radio off or on phone that it is noticeable.

My conclusion is that this is just going to be "normal" and probably a design issue on an otherwise great car. Pity.

Here is a bit more on the Panamera whistle. As previously mentioned the local dealership moved the rear hatch to reduce the gap between the roof and the hatch - essentially moving the hatch forward slightly. this appears to have completely fixed the whistle but it does mean that the shut lines next to the rear lights are not quite as it should be. Been very busy so not been able to take it up with Porsche and might just put up with it. So noise fixed but at a slight impact on the asthetics.

This must be adjustment of just a few millimeters / fraction of an inch. Glad to hear the whistle went away. The difference in alignment of the rear lights is probably so slight that only you would notice, but no one else.

Was the sound ever diagnosed? I have the same or similar problem and it's driving me nuts. No one seems to be able to give me any ideas. I think it's electircal interference.
Thanks

Its the gap in bootlid, you can diagnose it with taping. Insulation change under warranty dropped it to a tolerable level, not willing to move lid.

Hi,

I have the exact same problem with my turbo. The noise is only there at exactly 130 km/h (80-81 mph). Taping up the rear hatch at the top does not help.
The noise seems to come from the front, as it becomes weaker, although still there, when the right hand side (middle) ventilation grid is closed.
Have you got it fixed?

Sorry to hear you have the same issue. I have had no luck addressing this issue. Taping the rear hatch does not help, noise definitely coming from the front. I get no reduction in noise level by turning off the climate system or shutting vents.

I took the most experienced service tech at my dealership on a short drive to diagnose the issue, his initial response was worrisome: "Probably due to the way air is flowing through the front intakes", and "These cars are known to make noises at high speeds". I have scheduled a longer drive to look into this further, but facing the reality that it will be impossible to pinpoint the problem and I will have to live with this.

Given the amount of highway driving I do at 70+ mph while taking conference calls etc., the high-pitch whistle noise is not tolerable and I will most likely not keep the car very long -- maybe go back to the M5 (F10). It is a real shame as the GTS has been otherwise the perfect car. At lower speeds or with the radio on, it is not really a big problem.

Noise

Thanks for instant response,
Agree, this is not an acceptable, but I realize that this is something we have to live with...

Sorry to hear this. Surprised to hear there are two different whistles. Does turning the ventilation off make any difference? The problem in this car is that it is so quiet even at +200km/h cruising on the autobahn and you hear everything.

I dont think this is something you can live with. Demand it be investigated. The back seat whistle drove me crazy before the insulation fix.

For me, no difference with ventilation on or off. I totally agree that one of the issues is that the Panamera cabin is so very quiet with respect to road noise, so sounds that would be masked in other vehicles become very pronounced.

I will continue to demand a fix, but I believe it is a design issue and won't be easily pinpointed or addressed. Take a look at the video below of a TopGear review of the Panamera while driving at speed. From 40 sec onwards you can hear a distinct high-pitch whistle - same as mine. Random coincidence or design issue?

Knacz - after reading your note again, on my way home from work today I tried manually closing the right hand middle vent. I was surprised to hear that indeed the sound is much weaker in this case. I thought I previously ruled out the vents by turning the A/C system off and still hearing the whistle sound, but I see now this is an issue with air coming back in the car at speed, independent of the climate system.

So, thanks for that! This at least gives me something to follow-up with my tech. Will keep posted.
