Panamera GTS vs 2013 911S
Panamera GTS vs 2013 911S
I just returned my loaner vehicle to the dealer, a new 2013 911S. The car had the sport suspension and exhaust with 'sound symposer', and PDK.
I have to say, I was stunned by how much I missed my GTS. The 911S did not have PDCC, and I felt every bob, weave, dive and squat. The ride quality, even in comfort mode was not even close to the GTS. Certainly the sports setting flattened things out a bit, but in terms of composure there was just no comparison. In terms of acceleration, there wasn't a lot of difference either. On the highway, the GTS moved ahead with about the same urgency, and much less drama. I'll bet I can hustle the GTS quick enough around the track to keep up with a decent driver in a 911S - not a pro though.
I really missed the alcantara sport seats. There is a huge difference between the 14 way power sport seats and the adaptive 18 way seats in the GTS. Despite numerous adjustments, my back was tight after driving for the day in the 911. I missed the luxury of the interior on the Panamera. I've gotten used to seeing what is arguably the best looking interior of any production car made today.
Finally I really missed the sound. The 911 makes as much noise as the GTS, but you don't get the aggressive downblips. Possibly this would come with the sport chrono package on the 911 - I'm not sure about that.
Overall, I would really argue with anyone who is considering a GTS, but thinks they need a 911 for 'fun'. I did slide the 911 around a bit, and yes, that is a lot of fun...

I'm not ready to say I don't want to add a 991 to the garage. But I will say I am shocked at what a great sports car the PGTS is, leaving aside the fact that it's also a pretty nice luxury sedan.
Nice to see umwolverine, you are still smiling in your car. Not once have I felt that my current car is slower or less fun than my previous 997tt. The ride comfort even in sport+ vs comfort in the 997 is much better, however. In the corners you feel the weight, but surprisingly cornering speeds are quite similar. Track test have them almost equal also, so my feeling is probably not very wrong. Well see which way Ill go when the new 991tt arrives, dont want to sacrifice a lot of comfort, but maybe a little.
On a sidenote, any luck getting into a PTTS yet?

im going the opposite direction..i too was given a 991s as a loaner when i took my pgts in for service and i was amazed at how great to new 991 is. it is a little underpowered, but i will be ready to trade my gts in as soon as the new 991 turbo is available.
