Coolant/Overheat Blow out!!
Coolant/Overheat Blow out!!
Good morning - Was picking up my parents from the airport in my 20k miles Panamera 4s and the red engine warning overheat started to flash. Then, coolant gauge defective flashed yellow. Then, overheat. Back and forth - temp meter pegged to red overheat, then off, then pegged to red. Seemed to lose power but was still going, hard to know if a sensor problem or overheat. Being on the freeway in bumper to bumper had to drive at least a bit to find a safe spot with a shoulder. Was towed to the dealer via 1800Porsche and they mentioned some two part tube connecting A to B that was changed to a single piece that can no longer blow. Mine blew up.
I am being told by porsche service that if the engine was truly overheating in such a damaging way it would shut off and not allow it to be driven, self-protections, such that I only need be concerned about the immediate repair. There was zero coolant by the time I stopped and the inside of the engine area was just sprayed with coolant.
I have this nagging worry that something deeper could have been damaged in the engine through all this - valid concern? Dealer is saying all is fine, engine self-protects and wouldn't let it get there, all good, and they would fix more if they found more. A certified pre-owned car so all under warranty.
Just goes back to a nissan sentra I owned way back when - that blew a timing belt, leading to a ream of engine head/gasket problems, etc.. beyond the 'first' problem.

I had the same issue with my 2011 Panamera S...The hose/tube connection blew out of the engine block. Its a metal tube connecting coolant hose to engine block.. The epoxy or sealant fails and the tube blows out.. Got the warning lights and bells and whistles about stopping engine and I pulled over and parked.. Porsche arranged flatbed to get car to dealer. They told me that this is not an uncommon issue and Porsche has changed the connecting materials so this is not an issue with recent builds.. The dealer reconnected the hose and flushed and refilled the coolant system--and all was fine thereafter...... I was also concerned about possible damage, and dealer told me that the engine would have shut down before it got to that point.. Same answer that you got... It appears to be true.
By the way, comparing an old mechanical Nissan Sentra timing belt issue with the modern electronically governed Porsche systems is not really valid comparison here--and the warranty will cover you if there is an issue.
