Warming up in Idle

I saw in another thread a discussion about NOT warming up the car in idle. Does anyone know why Porsche recommends driving off immediately. Maybe the oil does not flow enough through the engine unless the car is in gear......It seems a little counter-intuitive to me.

things come up to temp much faster while driving than idling which is best for the moving parts

+1...

OP - the other key aspect to remember tho, is while driving away immediately after starting is OK, I would recommend waiting until the fluids are at temp before you "really get into the throttle...."

Thanks for info. i just never heard of this before. I was letting the car sit before driving off in the morning. Was wondering if i trashed anything.

one side note:
I did notice that when oil temp is below 100 degrees the pressure can easily go over 3.0 bars when you press the gas even slightly...once you hit 200 degrees or so pressure in the cylinder stays under 3.0 bars for the most part. ( this is for the nonturbo gts.) From looking at this, i use oil temp as a primary indicator to determine whether the engine is warmed up.

the car water temp comes up pretty fast. however takes twice as long for the oil temp to come up to temp, look at it you will see
do not run the car to red line until OIL TEMP is up to 200 not water
