thinking on some new shoes
I agree with Mr. Price - why spend money on performance parts and a tune and then throw a set of heavy 22" rims on the car? Unless your goal with the performance goodies is to offset the losses you'll get from the wheels it makes no sense. If the look is what you want go for it but do it knowing the negative effect on performance.
Okay normally I keep my thoughts to myself but here is something to keep in mind. Wheels and tires can either help a cars performance or ruin it. Putting 4 huge bricks on one of these cars will most certainly cause the car to not handle or drive as well. If your spending money to make your fast run better, faster seems counter productive to me. I know some of you have 22's and will say the car feels fine or even better well that's just not what happens when you put more weight and mass on the corners. it's your car if you want the look that's up to you.
A forged wheel won't be too heavy. Even if they are, I sincerely doubt the OP will be tracking a Panny. If you're not racing what's a few more lbs gonna do??? Not a darn thing.
It's all about personal choice. It's all about looks and style.
Personally, I wouldn't go past 21's but as long as they fit the car, I don't rag on 22's. I've seen many Panny's with 22's and they look great.
Get the proper fitment and no pulling, stretching or cutting is required.
The other day I pulled into the post office and parked next to a white Panny on HRE 22's. My jaw dropped at how hot it was.

I stepped up to 22's with ADV1 Superlights and am reducing at least 5 lbs per wheel (not including the reduction for the titanium lug bolts - about .5 lb per wheel) over the OEM 20's (sport) that when I weighed, came in around 32+ lbs/rears... car seems much more agile/nimble, and just overall better ride considering the forged / monoblock structure. I also went with the new Pirelli pzero nero GTs tires which seem to be an upgrade over the stock Pirelli Porsche tire - so an improvement there as well.
IMO, 22's are the perfect "size" (aesthetically) for the car - agree, need to look for a lightweight/superlight wheel option however vs 4 "bricks"...

Ben - check out the black Pani on the HRE site... new P1 series wheels gallery - that thing is hot!
If you wanted to go all out, that red finish (on the McLaren and the dark grey 911) would make quite a statement as well!!

A suggestion to consider:
6speed member dhh is looking to sell a set of lightly used, gorgeous 3 piece Vorsteiner wheels for PTT fitment in 21". I think he's willing to let them go for around half of what they cost him.
I had the monoblock version in 22' for my Cayenne and they were stunning and not too heavy for 22's.
Look for posts by dhh and you will find some pics.
Benefit of getting used is if you don't like the ride from the bigger wheels you can get out of them without losing thousands.
