Oil preferences? Mobil 1 vs. Castrol, 5w40 vs 0w40

I purchased my PGTS CPO from a remote dealer. After about 5k miles, I needed to add some oil this weekend, and I noticed on their CPO inspection paperwork that they had used "Castrol 5w40" during their oil change, even though the Porsche recommendation is Mobil 1 0w40. I was surprised at this, although AFAICT Castrol Edge 5w40 would be in accordance with all documentation I can find: the manual says 5w40 is OK down to -16F and Edge 5w40 is Porsche A40 certified (as is Edge 0w40). I was actually more taken back by the fact the a dealer in Ohio would use 5wXX for an oil change in January...where -20F temps are not completely unheard of. Here in Seattle it probably doesn't matter.

Castol offers several 5w40 variants, and I don't know which one the dealership used, so I got a quart of Edge and called it good.

My local dealer is fairly adamant that 0w40 should be used, especially in the V8. I'm not sure why the engine would actually matter since both the V6 is essentially the V8 with 2 cylinders missing. I would think the presence of a turbo would be more influential as to oil requirements.

I was just curious what other's thoughts/experiences were. Is there any possible benefit to 5w40 over 0w40? Less oil burn? I know that the additive packages could be different for the different weights (thus the 5w40 formulation might be superior), but my understanding was that Mobil 1 0w40 is a pretty good mix (from what I distantly remember from my hours of reading through the oil debate E60 M5 forums).

I have a Panamera 4 and it calls for 5W40. I cannot find Mobile 1 in this weight at any auto supply store. Has anyone been able to buy this anywhere except a Porsche dealer?

Oreillys around me only carries Edge in that weight, although it is A40 approved and should be ok. Walmart has a decent selection of Mobile 1 but I can't remember if they stock 5w40. They have 0w40 in both 1 and 5 quart containers.
