PTT: Do I need an air filter???

I have a 2011 PTT with 43k miles. I just performed the 40k service. I bought the plugs and filters through my local Porsche dealership a couple weeks prior to the service being done. I picked up my car and noticed the new air filter still in the box. I told them I wanted the engine air filter done when I dropped off the car. I was under the impression that the engine air filter gets replaced at 30 or 40k miles. He said no it's 60k! Who goes 60k miles on a single stock air filter? So now in addition to my 40k service they want to charge an additional $240 to replace the filter...!

I've now heard different intervals to changing the filter but I'm wondering at how many miles are you guys replacing your engine air filters at? I am the second owner of the vehicle and I'm pretty sure it has never been done, and it is was previously an Arizona owned car which leads me to believe it my be a little dirtier than normal due to dry and dusty conditions there... Any input would be appreciated!

I'm pretty sure spark plugs get changed at 30k on a PTT. That's major service and that's what my on dash indicator indicates.

But someone posted their dealers brochure and it stated that air filter gets its first change at 80k.

I've seen it state that spark and air gets changed at 30k. It's all conflicting information. Anyone have the maintenance schedule from corporate?

It says air filter at 80k or every 4 years.

Plugs every 30k on a turbo.

That's amazing that a stock air filter is supposed to last that many miles but that is awesome to know. Thanks for the info!

That's way to many miles for my taste especially if you live in a dusty part of the country.

im surprised the v6 and v8tt have the same schedule on something like an air filter.

I'm not necessarily comfortable with that many miles either. Since I have the filter I'm probably going to get it done anyway. 40k to me is too many miles IMO on a stock filter in Arizona dry dusty conditions... I can't verify the previous driving conditions but it will give me piece of mind....

one of the reasons they prolong the filter is because the entire front bumper has to come off to change it. It's not a quick inexpensive open/drop it in/close procedure like it is on most cars
